HP Mouse and Keyboard Response Problem

dro

I have an HP m9177c desktop, Quad Q6700, 3 GB, running Vista Home Premium SP1. It has the HP wireless keyboard and mouse.

From time to time, the keyboard and/or mouse become very sluggish, not registering keystrokes, or the mouse will become jumpy and will jump several inches rather than moving smoothly. This is not a new problem and has basically existed since new.

The keyboard is 3 feet from the USB on the computer and the mouse about 4 feet. Most of the time, they work fine and then become unstable for no reason that I can figure.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like the batteries get old and the signal gets weak. Does it do the same thing with fresh batteries?

That was my first thought, and I checked batteries in both keyboard and mouse. Strong batteries.

Thanks for the reply.

Also, more on the problem. The keyboard and mouse act up at different times. For example, the mouse will be fine and all of a sudden, the moves become jerky. One minute later the jerkiness is gone. They keyboard will be fine and all of a sudden, you're hitting keystrokes, but nothing happens. Couple minutes later, the keyboard is fine again. Never had one like this before.
