Frack! I waited too long. As I thought no one was buying (thus the price drop to $374), I was going to take yesterday evening to read the HP LP2475w thread on Hard|Forum (it's over 100 pages long), as I'm concerned about compensating for the wide gamut. Today I wake up and see the price is back up to $400 (and it's $425 at MacMall). The monitor is one of the best-selling items at OnSale too, so someone has been buying, even if no one from AnandTech or Hard|Forum rose to the occasion.

It's still a ridiculously cheap price, but I think I'll wait and see if the price drops below $400 again. And perhaps also wait and see if the Dell 2410 isn't vapourware.

Was almost too good to be true. I'm still considering it at $400, but have to wait a little longer

I want to add that one of the beauties of this monitor is the stand. Do not neglect the stand! Tilt, height adjust, and 90 degree abilities.

You guys really shouldn't be worried about the "Smart Buy" branding. It's still an HP albeit under their Smart Buy Program -- meaning good values for business equipment. There's nothing, physically or functionally, different between the various part numbers of this same monitor.

It's officially called a TFT LCD Monitor, using H-IPS technology. IPS is also known as "Super-TFT".

TFT = thin film transistor LCD technology. Each pixel has 'its own transistor switch which allows each pixel to be individually controlled'. The article includes brief descriptions of the common TFT variants: TN, IPS, and VA. I notice it's been updated recently with ASV (Sharp's VA tech) and some new IPS manufacturers (Hannstar and Chuangwa -- anyone ever get an S-IPS panel from this lot?).

Squandered $65 on a disastrous haircut (the stylist didn't even ask what I wanted and proceeded to hack away whilst I sat there incredulous) and not very good Indian food. That would have been 1/6 of the cost of the HP LP2475w on Friday.

Ordered HP2475w through Onsale on July 29, and arrived today, Aug. 3.

Paid $374 + $23 shipping = $397 minus Bing cashback $11.

Not refurb, just a brand new unit, in unopend original HP box.

Manufactured in Dec 2008, hardware version GIG122.

Everything is in order including all cables.

Installed on a Win 7 x64 machine with a calibrated .icm file from internet.

Just glad to replace my cuurent 22" Viewsonic.

How is the input lag?

The bit-tech review said they one they tested had a 31ms input lag and that monitors made before March 2009 could have this issue.

Lucie, would you be able to look up the firmware rev in your service menu? Is it 'GIG 045'? That firmware seemed common round the end of 2008. Some users claim this is a buggy firmware. Interesting that your display wasn't manufactured in 2009. OnSale must have had a bit of stock built up.

I think many punters are looking for the GIG 068 firmware as the least flawed version. Given the manufacturing date on Lucie's sample, I'm hesitating again on this display, despite the fact OnSale has dropped the price again to $374. Am about two-thirds through the Hard|Forum thread. Will make my decision when I've got through all of it.

Ha! Of course OnSale sells out of the display as I near the end of the Hard|Forum thread.

OnSale still has KD911A4#ABA (the non-'Smart Buy' SKU) in stock for nearly $700, heh.

I ordered one, arrives Monday. ~$390 all together. I'll let you know how it goes. I figure for the $150+ I saved I can fight HP on it if it's a bad one. Honestly I'd spend more on an IPS screen but when you have to buy them blind like this it's hard to dump $800 on one, especially with a 20% restock if it doesn't live up to standards.

It's weird, from what I've read elsewhere the production build doesn't necessarily match with any particular firmware. Some of the Oct 08's have had the same firmware as the Dec and March ones. Makes me wonder why they don't have a firmware update download on their website.

I am very much satisfied with this monitor which I bought from onsale, after using and testing for several days. It's day and night difference from Viewsonic 22" which I use for playing games.

For you guys info, It has hardware version GIG122, firmware version GIG 052, though not the latest one. Wish I had the latest firmware, but I can live with that....

I just got mine, $396 total. March 2009 manufactured, Gig143, Gig068 firmware. No tinting, no ghosting, 0 bad pixels. I feel like I stole this damn thing. It's SOOOO gorgeous, and I paid so little for it. Puts my LCD TV to shame... >_<

Aargh, GIG 068 firmware, 2009 manufacture. Drax, did you pull the trigger on the final day of the sale (I think about 3 August)?

Given how much the Dell UltraSharp 2410 looks like costing, it seems clear I should have ordered one of these last week. Though TDoran1 has speculated the OnSale promotion may have been an experiment sanctioned by HP to test the price elasticity of this monitor, as they prepare for the arrival of the Dell 2410.
