Just picked one of these bad boys up.. here's the scoop:

OfficeMax is currently selling this fine printer for $149.99. Link!

I went to OM, got the weekly ad, took it to Office Depot, had them pricematch, then had used a Staples 30 off 150 coupon (YES! Office Depot accepts competitors coupons!) which should be relatively easy to find online..

Had to add a second item to tip the printer over 150, but that should be very simple to find.

I've got one of these printers in use here at home, and the one I bought today is for my folks.. hard to go wrong with $120 for a $200 printer ;)

Good deal, just like the one OD had a couple of weeks ago in-store - $148 or so with a $20 giftcard.

Some people say the Samsung 1710 on sale at BB last week for $99 and this week at OD $99 after $70 rebate in both situations is better, but HP is HP, I say...

Well, 120 straight up for an HP product, in my mind, is a much safer investment. I know HP works, I trust them, very rarely had an issue. Plus, 20 more to not deal with a rebate? I'll go that route, personally :)

I bought the HP 1000 LasetJet deom OD about 1/5 weeks ago. I was going to give it to my parents so it still wasn't opened. The return policy for printers at OD is 14 days. So, I took it back and got the Samsung 1710 for $78AR at OD. It's newer, faster, and was cheaper!

Not to threadcrap, but the Samsung is a better deal IMHO. Better specs, better price, and I have never had any problems with Samsung products. On the other hand, I've replaced my HP inkjet every year for the last 3... but that's just my experience.

A quick side-by-side comparison shows that the LaserJet 1000 does 10ppm vs. 17ppm for the Samsung - of course, this is maximum claimed print speed, but when you mention the fact that the LaserJet has 1MB vs. the Samsung's 8MB of memory, you could argue that the Samsung is better.

Don't get me wrong, I love the LaserJet (and I also qualified for a HPInfoLab rebate since I work retail) but the Samsung seems to be a great printer as well.

This ISN'T a Inkjet, its a Laserjet! You really shouldn't be making that comparison. Its really hard to go wrong with an HP Laserjet.

The samsung specs out better, but I have always had great long term relialbility with HP laserjets, I would probably go with the HP. But the Samsung is tempting.

I understand, that's why I made the distinction. Fact is, I've owned a bunch of lasers, Sharp, HP, Lexmark and now a Samsung. Never had a problem with ANY of the laser printers. I wouldn't touch Lexmark inkjets with a 10 foot pole, and I used to be a diehard HP inkjet man, but the quality has really gone to crap.

I can also speak for the Samsung that the 17 PPM isn't only a claimed print speed, but that's the actual print speed. I've timed it myself. I printed a 45 page PDF (a manual, diagrams and text) in 2:39, which by my math works out to almost exactly 17 PPM. Fast little ah heck!

I really wanted to get a Hp Laserjet peinter with all those deals out a while ago but I heard that many of the printers are off center and HP says it's within specs and won't help with the issue. I find printing off center really bad for stuff I want to print. I have been very impressed with Samsung printers not too mention I had called tech support for my 170MP LCD and I'll rather call Samsung Tech support then wait for half-baked HP support.

i had an hp Laserjet 6L, 1100, 1200 and all of them had that paper problem where they would take in multiple pages @ the same time. i now have a samsung ml-1210 and a canon L75 and both work excellently!

I actually really like Lexmark Inkjets, the printers are cheap when on sale and the print quality is very good. I don't care about the cost of the ink because when it runs out I throw away the printer. Its gotten to the point where I can buy a good quality printer on sale and after rebate (Closeout) for between $20-$50 so its not worth spending $30 or more for a new cartridge. Maybe I'm the only one who does this but its served me well. I use my $50.00 Minolta Laser printer for big printing jobs and save the Lexmark for color printing.

I agree about the cheap ink, but I've worked tech support at a University, and before that at Best Buy and saw Lexmark inkjets returned/serviced at a 10:1 ratio to any other brand. But then again, if you're only using them until the ink runs out, who cares if they have problems ;)

On topic, as for the multiple paper feed problem, I know HP provides a "kit" of some sort for free that will fix the problem. (As far as HPs reply to the skewed paper... wow.)

yea me too. In summer 1997 I bought a HP LaserJet 6L still use it today but had the multiple pages sticking together problem. Got their free kit and couldn't got $20 for their class action law suit but didn't still have the receipt and not worth all the paperwork I had to fill out. It's due to the fact HP makes it with rubber though hardens and it can't pick up just one page anymore.

I'd definitely not going HP anyone. We have Kyocera and HP at work. I'm gonna get the samsung laser as soon as my toner is done or the HP breaks again done...whichever is first.

I have a LJ 1100 and I also had the multi page feeding problem. The kit fixed the problem for now, but it says that in time, the same problem might happen again, and that the kit only works once! I also didn't have the original receipt to get the money back from the lawsuit. I've found in general that their older products (from several years ago) and their high end ones work great, but their lower end PCs and printers are crap. My old Deskjet 500C still works great, my dad's 12c calculator (it's gotta be almost 20 years old!) and my 48G graphing calculator from high school are still good as new. At work, the high end LaserJets are awesome, and the HP servers seem to be pretty reliable as well.

Interesting...I agree HP Printers for business are the greatest. Very reliable and always a good copy. Personally, I've been looking at those deals and picked up an Apple Laserwriter 16/600 off ebay for around $70+shipping. It has printed 20k pages and is rated to 450,000 prints without an overhaul. For $7 you can get their AAUI adapter which makes it instantly a network printer that PC's, Macs & *nix boxes can use. BTW it has the HP engine inside and uses cheap toner. They produce about 6.8k copies for prices nearing $60 for a refurb cartridge. I used one of these at my old university and they absolutely rock. YMMV though.

I own the Laserjet 1000. It works perfectly. I don't need the extra 7ppm compare to the samsung and at the time wasn't able to get it for the current price.

Bought the laserjet from officemax for $150-30(online coupon) for about $130 including tax.

We have a bunch of deskjet 5500 at work and those suck ass soooo much. But from all the people i know, the HP laserjets are some of the best out there...

bummer. can't find the LJ1000 for $150 anymore at staples, OM or OD. and I just printed the 30 off 150 staples coupon (exp 05/30/04). :frown:
