HP Laserjet 1012 w/ Vista?

According to the Microsoft website, this printer is just plain incompatible with Vista and will only work with XP. Is this true? Is there anything that can be done?

Yep, I tried to hook it up and Windows couldn't find a driver, which got me to the MS website. I don't have the discs, either (it's a hand-me-down). Thanks for the reply.

Wow, sorry I didn't do that first. My mistake for trusting the MS website. I downloded the driver and it's all what Vista calls "cabinet files" - what do I do with those?

Thanks for the help, and sorry again for my lameness.

There should be a (.inf) file in there and then when you connect your printer point it to that folder and it should find the device driver that it needs. I believe that should work.

The 10xx personal laserjets work with Vista just fine. I have a 1018 and it works very well. My only gripe is that sometimes, when printing web pages, I get black bars running on the margin of the first page. Weird, but not really a big deal. It only happens when printing websites.

They have finally released a 1012 Vista driver.

🙁 Son of a bitch. I gave my 1012 printer away, and got a new one. HP 1006, and I hate the damn thing. Man, that sucks so bad.

I have the 1018 too, and I'm so pissed at hp. Mine has the same black bar down the side whenever printing any graphics, and it drives me crazy. It's a well known issue, I investigated it a year ago and it's all over forums everywhere. I talked to hp about it and they gave me the runaround, then recommended I mess with it in a bunch of ways and then install the old xp drivers which I balked at. I'm really pissed about the whole thing and basically would never buy an hp printer again. They promised me they were coming out with a new vista driver really soon. BS. They still haven't, the latest 1018 drivers are from 2007.

I have an hp multifunction printer at the office and it also sucks at vista. Constantly popping up error windows saying this program has stopped working, etc.
And I looked at their support page for the latest drivers ... nothing since 2007!

I have a brother printer and it works with vista like a charm. No more hp for me! And I used to think they were the best in printers.
