my friend has a hp laptop, it has windows me, and its pretty new.. it does this weird thing where it turns off completely all of the sudden anybody expierence that with hp laptops??

Sounds like a heat issue. If you are feeling ballsy, open it up and check to see if the HS on the chip is on properly. I upgraded my compaq laptop a couple of times and once I put on too much ASII and the lappy would shut doen a lot unexpectedly. I removed some ASII and reseated the HS and its fine now.

Well... Since it is a Laptop it can have some other reason than heat too.
You could have an issue with the Bat. First thing I would try is to remove the Bat. altogether and run it off Regular power. Next would be to get another Power strip to ensure that there is not an issue with the power supply.
Lastly then would I search for heat related issues. If it is fairly new I would call HP asap!
