HP laptop advertised 512ram only came with 384ram?

So my mom's old Pentium III finally crapped out and died, and she went out and bought this HP zE2401xt laptop for 550. It was on sale at Circuit City. The laptop is advertised with 512mb RAM, 60GB hard drive, blah blah blah. Anyways, when I opened the properties on My Computer I noticed that it said 384mb RAM. My mom thinks she got ripped off and wants to attack the store later today; I'm thinking that the rest of memory is saved for the video card or somethin', but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

You could verify the amount of system ram by checking bios.

check BIOS and also see what the display settings say for video memory.

The integrated video card is taking away 128MB for its use. Thats the reason Windows reports it as 384MB. You can change this setting in the BIOS if video card performance is not that important.

Yep, exactly ^^ It's allocating space for the vid card.

If she isn't gaming on it, I would set the video down to 64 meg. That ram is better spent on system memory than 2d app memory. Heck, even if she's playing games, it will be better spent on system memory since any integrated video is not going to be playing games that require more than 64 meg of texture memory anyway.

Hmm, well I might be tempted to run Counterstrike on it whenever I'm back home. Do you think I should still move it down to 64?
