Both Hot Deals:

One from Amazon: HP 4x4x6 $113 after rebates.

Staples : Iomega 4x4x6 Apprx. $130 after rebates.

I'm torn between the two (& Dont want internal drive).

Which is the better piece?

Appreciate any info ...

I am thinking of the same thing (investing in an external cdrw) because my internal cdrw drive has been giving me so much problems. Now its not even working. I've been looking at the iomega zipcd drive. it sounds pretty reliable. I am very skeptical about HP cdrw drives. Haven't heard any good comments on it from my friends. How did you bring the staples iomega drive down to $130 after rebates? All I am able to find is PM Staples to $179.95 and use $40 off $150 coupon to get it down to $139.95 (no rebates). Well, let me know what you guys think cuz I'm planning on getting one very soon. Thanks.

Granted I don't know a lot about this issue, but I think 2 very implortant things to consider are the connection type- USB is the best I think, and then the buffer size-- because the primary issue with the externals, I THINK, from superficially following this issue is buffer underrun,AKA data not getting there fast enough>> coaster.

Also, I think this is the wrong forum for this issue.

kid07,
there's also a $50 mir from Iomega, so if you pricematch and use the staples coupon, it'll be 90 +tax after rebate.
here's the link:

HP USB CDRW's suck. Their drivers are buggy and you will have problems. Their internal CDRW's are good, but avoid their USB drives.

Iomega is the clear choice, since they manufacture Cross-Rlatform, PC and Mac, and their drivers have to be rock solid. I own the Zip USB CDRW, and it is a great drive. The purple case offsets all the BEIGE, and it comes with everything you need to set it up, USB cables ETC. The install disk is VERY easy to use, and Iomega regularly updates its drivers.

There have been several threads concerning the two drives, you be the judge.

Another one

Hope this helps

And to be FAIR, This is why the Zip CD is so Cheap. The Predator is coming. Is it worth the extra bucks? Probably not, unless you have to have the newest thing RIGHT away and are willing to pay Premium prices for it. Both drives are excellent choices, and who wouldn't want to go faster, but the ZIP CD is still a wise choice, Slow and Steady. Unless you are burning discs constantly, 4X is plenty fast, especially for an external drive and at this price.

Iomega's Software Download page, get the newest version of Iomegaware to update the drivers.

Linked. There isn't an "O" in epinions.com, btw.

An Excellent suggestion Souka.

You be the judge. Hope something works for you.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Avoid the Sony USB drive at all costs. VERY flaky drivers and comes with Sony's proprietary software to burn cds.

vegasbabyy:
you can pricematch the Iomega drive with www.onvia.com which should have it for $179.95. Free shipping and no tax. There ya go. $40 off $150 coupon. $50 MIR. Total about $90 after MIR. Hope that helps.
