HP Deskjet 722C will not pick up paper. Help!

I recently bought an HP Desjet 722C printer from Ebay (don't even say it!) and it will not pick up paper properly. It only works is the paper tray is totally full. If it is not the printer will not grab a piece of paper until the second try, and even then it will put a small fold in the paper where the roller grabs it. Is there any way I can fix this? What could be broken? Everything looks like it is working properly. Thanks for any help.

I've noticed this problem with my HP printers, not tryin to say its an HP problem, but it seems to me that these printers are picky on the type of paper I use, have you tried premium paper thats a bit thicker? that worked for me, you could have other issues but...I'd try different paper and see if that solves problem.

I'm sure it's not the paper. I'm using the same paper (infact it's HP paper) that I have always used in my Deskjet 712C. I have also tried some "premium" paper and it didn't work either.

I have 2-HP870Cse's and one of them does the same thing, the only way to use it is to manually feed it. If you come up with a fix let me know.

printers also just wear out after a while. Try to find some of that rubber rejuvinator stuff (it gives rubber a tackiness) and put it on the rollers that pick up the paper. It will leave streaks for a few pages, but it should fix it.

Well, I did some more playing with it and now it seems to be working. I'm not sure what I did (as usual ;) ) but I did find 2 more packing peanuts as well as a spring :Q. I wonder where it came from! Oh well, it seems to work so I will not complain.

The 722 is a fairly aged printer - circa 1997-98. THe rubber rollers dry out in time and lose their tackiness and ability to grab the paper. The rubber rejuvenator helps . . . but replacing them is the best solution.

Watch out with the rubber rejuvinator, it may eat plastic, and is really hard on the hands and lungs.
