Please Help!

I just got my computer running after having problems with my 45 Gig HD. Now, my HP CD-Writer will not access CDs. The computer see's the drive with no problem, but will not run CDs (Any type). I have tried switching from Slave to Master, stand-alone, and switching cables. No luck. My other CD-ROM works great. Any suggestions?

What kind of problems did you have with the HD? When you moved the CDR around, did you also change the settings in the bios?

What is your current setup? How is the CDRW set up? Secondary master or slave? What are your current bios settings? Did the CDRW work before you had hard drive trouble or is it a new drive?

My CDRW is Secondary IDE Slave:

The CDRW worked fine prior to the 45 Gig HD installation. The problem I had with the HD is that it was unstable. It was locking my computer up. I started from scratch and zeroed the drive. My bios recognizes all drives including the CDRW. I removed the entry in the "System" under the control panel and rebooted the computer. It found the CDRW once more. I went into the bios and did a search for drives. It finds it there too. There is a letter assigned to the drive, but always gives me an error stating there is not a cd in the drive. When I put a CD in the drive, it spins up a little, green flashing light, then nothing...

This could be an unrelated failure of the CDRW.
I had the very same drive and it broke down 2 times. Each time HP sent me a replacement immediately.
I finally egayed it.

Maybe a mechanical shock caused the optical pickup to deteriate.

That would explain the drive to be recognized, as it seeks to it's "home" postition during login. For that it doesn't need to "see focused".

Try to get a warranty replacement from HP.
