My friend has a 1 1/2 year old Pavilion...
P3-550, 256mb, 20GB, Asus onboard video & audio, 4x4x24 CD-RW drive, Adaptec EZ CD (3.5 first, now 4.02).
He can burn CDRs, no problem. He can burn (Yamaha 4X CDRW), FIRST time. If he tries to erase the CDRW disk, his system locks up hard. He puts the disk in the CD-RW, the light flashes a few times, then it locks on him. I've used the exact same disk he's trying to erase. And it works fine (write & erase) in my S&F 6x4x24. The first software he was using was Adaptec EZ CD creator 3.5. He then installed the 4.02 version, only to have the same lockup problem.
