HP breaks Dell's record

Workaholics take note: HP just did the impossible, cramming 24 hours of battery into a laptop, and destroying Dell's fresh 19 hour record in the process. The HP EliteBook 6930p combines advances such as an LED backlit display and Intel's 80GB SSD, a new HP BIOS and Intel graphics driver, and of course an "Ultra Capacity Battery" -- a 12-cell, $189 option, which weighs in at a hefty 1.77 pounds -- for a net approximate 24 hours of work time. The standard 6930p only weighs 4.7 pounds, though, so you're not looking at a backbreaker, and configurations start at $1,199 without SSD.

Not a bad price either

Not a bad price either

Yeah, the $1200 price is without the SSD, which means you don't get 24 hours on the battery.

I indeed love the ability of 12-cell batteries. I have one in my HP dv6500t that nets near 5 hours of battery life through careful conservation (and that's with an 8400GS and a mechanical HDD).

Thing is really heavy though with the battery. Plus its jacked up nearly an inch in the back with it in.

i'll believe it once some real tests are done. i doubt 'real world' use wont get 24 hours

I don't understand the point of 24 hours...

16 hours + ability to full charge in the next 8 seems like it would be essentially infinite. People have to sleep ya know.

well the only thing i can think of is... maybe if someone was on an airplane for a long time or something. a very, very long time


oh, or out in the desert


- i dont really think it would get 24hrs in real world use. seems more like a marketing gimmick.

yah, you could run it with medium-heavy load and probably come in at under 12 hrs. play a game and run it out in 6 probably.

That's over 6 pounds, which isn't too bad. I wonder how they did this test. With wifi/bt off and lcd on lowest brightness and just writing in textpad?
