HP 9200i (SCSI) or HP 9100i (IDE)?

Nevermind, this probably a stupid question. :)

I'm just curious how HP SCSI CD-RW performs compared to IDE one. I'm not sure if 9200i is good.

If you are going to overclock the system, then SCSI is the way to go because IDE ones won't work well if the PCI bus speed is above 33.

Thanks a lot for the reply man.

I did read the comparison. I just want to know peoples personal comments about the drive.
ZapZilla, I'm overclocking my CPU but only to 133 MHz FSB. So my PCI still runs at 33 MHz.

I use the HP 9210i SCSI in a desktop workstation and overall it has been a very good drive. The burns are fast, reliable and never gave us any problems (although some of this is likely attributable to the SCSI interface.) If you have a SCSI system, it's certainly a decent way to go - if not, and you're not going to burn lots of CDs, then IDE is certainly fine.

I really hate it when I can't multi-task if I burn something. That's why I want SCSI.

Watch DVD while you are burning CDs. ;)

You may want to check out the review of the new ide Plextor CDRW at PC Magazine which has Sanyo's burnproof technology. It apparently works very well.

I really want to buy Plextor cause I like it more than HP, but in Hong Kong, Plextor is more expensive than HP. ;)

I have the 9100i. You cannot mulitask while buring at 8x. Maybe a little at 4x. It is a decent drive. Be aware though that HP will try to charge you like 20 bucks for the win 2k software. So if you want cheap + win98, go 9100i. If you got the cash and run win2k, go 9200i. I wish i would have bought the 9200i instead. -Andy

who said u can't multitask when a cd is burning?

i got HP8200 on a P3/700e oced 868

never have ANY problem burnning ANY cd

(except i play quake3...)

but i dont think the SCSI ppl can actually play Q3 and NOT get buffer underrun any way
when burning cd at 4x 2% of my cpu is used... this is IDE... i wonder HOW scsi helps here

2% of my cpu is really nothing guys
