hp 9100i problems

I have had this drive for about 6 months, with no problem. I had it in a bx intel setup, now I bought a new a7v with duron 700 and now it won't work. When I try to read anything from it, it gives a blue screen with some OE exception. I can't understand it. When I called hp support that you have to pay for long distance with, they basically gave me newbie install this, uninstall this non brainer, non-working solutions. Anyone know the possible problem? Im running 98se, 256 pc133 micron mem, soundblast pci64, tnt2 32 agp. This is the same setup from the other board/cpu. I can't imagine why now it isn't working. I need my dang burner though. DMA is disabled on both, which won't work on ANY of my drives even my toshiba sd-m1202 dvd/cd combo that I have had dma on for over a year, any help??

Toro It goes to blue screen with any cd read, not even talking about burning here. In the pass on the old system I burned with Nero and Adaptec no problem. My problem is as soon as I try to read anything I get a blue screen, looking through the forums, it seems that ASUS has problems with the non Ata 100 ide ports. I heard other people talking aobut problems with cd drives. This better not be an a7v problem, or I will be very irate.

If the IDE channel is working for your DVD/Cd then it should be ok, have you tried your burner as a slave to your DVD or on the Primary channel?I know thats not where you want them just might help in narrowing down your problem. It does sound like a 4 in 1 update problem for your MB,I'm sure your already looking for some type of driver update ,etc.
I was thinking about putting together a Asus Duron combo, I'll be intrested to see how this one l plays out. Keep us posted

I've tried all manner of setups for the drive, funny thing is that it blue screens when you try to read to it, which is some software/drive conflict, hp customer service /business tactics are evil.

For those of you who don't believe in coincidences,

A friend of mine just ordered a Duron 700, a7v, and mosel pc133 ram. We put it together and it worked for a while, and then when it was recognizing the CD drive during setup (which was an HP 9xxx) the entire system went bad. We tried the motherboard and cpu in another case, didn't work. We tried another motherboard and cpu in the same case, didn't work. We tried the HP CDRW in another machine, it didn't work.

So he bought a 9100 at sam's for $160 and got replacement parts for the mb, cpu, and case, and now everything works great (now that he has all the replacement parts)

In general I've had no real problems with cd drives in my a7v + 700 combo, except that my stupid Truewood is in the stage of its life where it can wake up dead people in China because the fan is so loud.
