They had this same laptop just a bit ago, I bought 3 and quickly resold two for 1250$ each locally. I got mine with 10% bing for 810$. They sold out and started popping up all over ebay. But now they got more in stock, and I figure Ill post it up since it actually is a pretty decent deal.

Oh and the Quadro FX1600 is basically a mobile 8700. Probably equal to a mobile 9600.

Upgrade the RAM and HDD for a good laptop.

I think its a good deal. Very well rounded machine, with plenty of power.

The HDD you mention needing an upgrade is a 7200rpm......and anything over 160gb should be on an external anyhow.

which is it?? if it's Vista Bus, is that 32bit OS or 64bit (more memory capacity)?

Scorching hot. As jjmIII said its very well rounded. Dedicated videocard, 2.6 ghz dual core, and a 7200 rpm drive to boot. Max out the ram and you are set.

Looks like a single 2gb stick waiting for a matching 2gb stick. I do wonder why they start with a ~667 stick and an 800bus processor?

Has both XP and Vista Business, Im not actually sure but I think its XP with a vista upgrade disk. I never actually opened the boxes lol. Im guessing 32 bit.

And I think nowadays 160GB is a bit limited...I agree you should probably be storing most of your stuff elsewhere even for the simple fact that its more secure than bouncing around in a laptop drive, but for 50$ you can get a 320GB 7200RPM drive thats got a bit more usability (some cad programs and things like adobe CS4 and such take up a good chunk of room).

And as far as the 667 RAM, from what I understand thats actually overkill. An 800MHz FSB only needs 400MHz DDR for 1:1. 1066FSB is 533 and 1600FSB is 800.

And the advantage with this laptop over others in this range is the workstation card, it does help in certain professional applications and your not likely to see this anywhere in a sub $1K laptop.
Edit: Oh and the fact that this is a fast 6MB cache CPU too...

probably the best drive now would be a 7200rpm 250gb drive. single platter one. Like the seagate 7200.4.

more platter density = better.
