Thanks Hans. Correct me if wrong, but I am limited to 800 fps due to the chipset. Will a T9600 exceed this?I start seeing CPU models and this brings me back to my thinkpad collection. You want a T9600. That is the value play. $10-15 for a 2.8ghz clock.
The T9500 (2.6ghz)is the closest CPU of that era that you can get to a x9000 (2.8ghz) in speed. The X9000 CPU goes for $65-80 which is crazy in 2020. But that is the top of the line CPU of that generation. People pay a premium for the best performing CPU.Thanks Hans. Correct me if wrong, but I am limited to 800 fps due to the chipset. Thanks Hans, You have been a great help. I will install the X9000 and if it runs hot go to the T9600.The T9600 is the closest CPU of that era that you can get to a x9000 in speed. Those are the top of the line thinkpad of that era.
I was giving the best option with regards to budget and speed. You can get a T9600 on ebay for between $12-15. It's a 2.8ghz CPU and a step below the X9000 which is a 3.06ghz CPU.
Your chipset limits you to 800mhz memory which is equal to the FSB (front side bus) of 800/800mhz. You can use either 667mhz or 800mhz ram.
The T9500 is the next step below. It's a 2.6ghz CPU. The X9000 is a 2.8ghz CPU. I was off by a generation. The X9000 runs hot as blazes. Make sure you use good thermal paste. Thanks Hans, You have been a great help. I will install the X9000 and if it runs hot go to the T9600.
Thanks again
