HP 7200 CD-Writer Problem: Power Calibration Error

I have a HP 7200i CD_Writer that is not working. When I tried to copy some cds., it keeps giving me this power calibration error and tells me to try another blank disc. So, I did. But, I get the same error message.

Previously, I was getting Buffer underrun errors. So, I followed all the steps on the HP support site to slow down the write speed, defrag by hard disk, kill all background apps. and so on. I did all of these and I think I eliminated those. Now, I am stuck with these power calibration errors.

I would appreciate it if anyone can help. Thanks!

I had that drive before. When I started getting those errors, I did some thourough testing and saw that it was qualified for the dumpster.

I haven't had the power calibration error, but after two years of being powered up 24/7, my HP 7200 took a similar dump.

Not sure if being powered up continuously killed it, or it was just it's time to go, but I didn't bother pricing parts.

When you can buy a similar machine for $100, there's no sense fixing the old one.

I went all out with the Plextor 12x10x32 with Burn Proof. Have not burned a coaster unintentionally yet!

I love it. I wish I could buy top-of-the-line all the time. This Plextor has slowed my receding hairline, at least temporarily.
