Hey everybody, I'm thinking about building this system. Please feel free to give me a pointer here or there if you think I should do differently. Budget is about where I want it. Here it is.....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ $497.00
Asus MoBo nForce4 Althon 64 dual-core with RAID $98.00
Corsair 1gb ddr400 $115.00
Pny Verto Geforce 7800 GT pci ex. with 256mb $370.00
2 36gb 10,000rpm WD raptors in a RAID $230.00
Liteon 16x dual layer dvd-r $47.00
Already have a copy of XP Pro.
Minus the case and PS it's at around $1356 for those parts. I think this is a decent computer for what I'm trying to work with. Thanks for any suggestions.


Storage is not an issue here so the size of the hd's isn't a biggie, have another hd to throw in there.

Consider the Opteron 165 and overclock it. Save yourself some money.
 
Lose the raptors and get a Seagate 7200.9 or something. The speed loss isn't anything major and you get tons more space, and save $100. Use that to get better ram or vid card.
 
Welcome to AT. Skip the 36gig raptor RAID.

Check out some benchmarks vs other drives and see if you think a single 74gig raptor is worth the price over a standard SATA drive.
