I think this is good enough for the intro...

Crystallization is a technique in which chemists use to purify solid compounds in large and small amounts, and it is one of the fundamental procedures in chemistry. Crystallization is based on the principles of solubility: compounds (solutes) tend to be more soluble in hot liquids (solvents) than they are in cold liquids. If a saturated hot solution is allowed to cool, the solute is no longer soluble in the solvent and forms crystals of pure compound. Impurities are excluded from the growing crystals and the pure solid crystals can be separated from the dissolved impurities by filtration.

The purpose of this lab is to crystallize pure phthalic acid, recrystallize naphthalene and calculate the percent recovery of dry, recrystallized acid.

maybe? :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

If this is for a lab report, the sentence is more than adequate. If you get marked down for that, you have an anal-retentive instructor.

I didnt really change it at all, but i added in "in the solution." I know if my english teacher read it she probably would have griped that she didnt know where the impurities are

Just sort of clarifys it a little bit, though.
