Hows this for an Ultra low budget machine?

$375 doesn't sound like "ultra low budget" to me.
$240 does though.

uhh... I guess that'll do it... but it's not as future proof... which will mean instead of upgrading the parts he'll just have to fork over another $250-$400 in two years. He's also going to have to shell out about $70 for a decent G-card, I had the 7300 (your recommendation has the 7030) in my HP and it barely ran HL2 on medium with no AA. The processor is clocked lower also. Not to mention 4GB is his cap for memory, so if one day he decides on a substantial upgrade he will hit a giant brick wall there.

Of course it is up to the OP, but that machine needs a lot of work to do "Moderate gaming".

Check your PSU connectors, if it was running a Barton it may not have all the proper modern connectors. (4/8 pin 12v to the motherboard, SATA power, etc.)

I just got a new DVD burner only to discover that my PSU has just one SATA cable with 3 power connectors, and that's running to the HD bay. Oops. Time to buy a cheap pin converter.

the best budget computer would be just buying a dell. they sell e7500 machines with monitors for 399
