How's this for a neat MiniITX idea?

I know the DreamcastPC has been done before ... but I want to do it with ATOT flavour - "bettAr than evAr before!"

Planned improvements to the linked project include:

1) Slimline (possibly slot-loading?) CD/DVD drive
2) 55W external DC-DC powersupply ... looks like a GameCube PSU
3) No giant holes cut in the side ... VGA port redirected via extension cable to the Dreamcast's AV port at the back
4) ATI Remote Wonder wired up internally - remote control HTPC! :D
5) Naturally, faster board (EPIA 8000 just won't do!) Edit - Ooh, M10000 Nemehiah core. :D

my digital camera fund turned into my mini-itx project fund ironically. I have an old server tower case right now and I plan on putting several of them in there and calling it "Mini rack". I'll take pics the day I finish.

Will do. I've got the dead DC, the 2.5-to-3.5 converter, a slimline CD drive ... I'll probably hit up FS/FT for a small laptop drive. :)

I also want to stick one inside a G4 Cube, but those cases cost about US$150 :Q

2 yodas and a mercenary for fire in one thread...sounds like trouble. :D

Aren't there top loading CDROM drives you could use?

I was looking at them, but most seem to be full-sized. That means they 1) won't fit in the DC and 2) will drain more powAr than the 55W PSU can push out

is there enough room in the DC to do all that?

The CD drive is what's concerning me. From what I've plotted out though, it *should* fit if I do a little "creative filing" of the plastic bits on the inside. If worst comes to worst, I can mount the slimline externally and manually "round" the cable (since power & data are carried through the same cable). The CD drive wouldn't be used for anything other than the initial OS load anyhow.

And as long as the RF receiver for the Remote Wonder doesn't mess with anything, I'll be golden. :)
