How's the Samsung 950P?

Hello, I was just wondering if you could give me some feedback on your experiences with the Samsung 950P, good and/or bad! I'm looking for a 19" that's not going to cost me a fortune, if you've got any other options let me know too please! I've found the 950P for $450CDN so far.

It's one of the best budget monitors. High res, high refresh rate, and small dot pitch. Good image quality as well. A similarly priced Samsung model is also highly recommended, the 900IFT, with flat screen and even smaller dot pitch.

Cool Have you heard of any problems with it? I heard the DynaFlat in the 900 has bad screen geometry?

I've had my 950p for almost a year so far. No problem and it's great. I'm not too concerned about dot pitch, because this seems fine. Text and everything is razor sharp. Good deal for the money... and I paid $550 CDN at the time! I too can find it for $450 now. pisses me off

some people say the ift have problems in the corners because of the way they flattened the shadowmask tube by sort of extending the glass in the corners, so the geometry awayfrom the center isn't perfect.

I also hear Samsung is REALLY good with their warranties. If your monitor breaks (it has a 3 yr warranty i think) they ship you one out and it's there within a couple days even before sending the old one back.

I have a 950p and love it. I use it for both gaming and dvd. I would only consider getting rid of it for a 21 incher. I hear a lot of people complain because it doesn't have a flat screen, but personally I don't like the perfectly flat screens. It seems like everything is concave to me, but that is probably just because I've been looking at round screens my whole life.

That's true...all my monitors have been slightly curved too...except for the Diamond Pro 900u I use at work...wish I could take that home with me I guess the DynaFlat perfectly flat screen thing doesn't make that much of a difference? How does a lower dot pitch affect screen quality? Is that for the sharper text at higher resolutions?

It's a helluvalot better than any other monitor I've ever owned. Excellent for the price (but it ain't perfect). I'd personally take shadowmask over aperture grill any day too. I only paid CAD$350 (US$235) for mine too, but I think it's because Onvia probably misquoted the price. I didn't argue. (They were usually $550 CAD at the time.)

I've had mine since I picked it up from Onvia Canada when it was "mispriced" and use the coupon as well, of which there are three floating around right now. 25 off 100, 50 off 200 and 50 off 300. You can find it around by searching. With free shipping and you're looking good. Since the last time I checked Samsung was still offering rebates on selected models I would check them out and see if you can the flat screen for close to the 950p price including rebate. Good luck.

I really like my 950p and I would do it again for sure.

I like mine vey much thank you . It's difficult to compare monitors if you haven't got them side by side, but the 950p seems to be very good and did fare well in the tests I checked befor buying it.

Samsung 950p is not flat,
if you are looking for flat screen, check 900NF (pure flat, no curve at all).

900IFT and 953/955DF are all flat monitors from Samsung. These models use Samsung's DynaFlat instead of Mitsubishi Natural Flat.

yup, problems with 955DF or the variant is
that they have low refresh rate, can't compared
to 950p or 900NF.

950p is good (great refresh rate) if you don't
need flat screen.

The best of both world is 900NF (but you pay a price
for this).

When your budget is around $300-$330, and if you want perfectly flat monitor, buy 955df. It's resolution is 1280x1024@75hz without flickering. But at that resolution, there is an annoying problem like vertical moire.
But at 1152x864@85hz, it's awsome!
You can adjust graininess with focus and moire controls.
But if you really want 1280x1024 with 85hz refresh rate, go for 950p.
I bought 955df 3 weeks ago. At first time, I was really disappointed because it doesn't make great picture at 1280x1024, and even had uneven color problems. But after I updated DirectX 6.1 to 7.0 version for watching DVD, the uneven color problem has gone.
And after I changed resolution to 1152x864@85hz, it really makes me happy.
Once you have a perfectly flat monitor, you cannot go back to curved monitors.

br0wn: The 900IFT actually has the same resolution/refresh rate as the 950p, and its one of the DynaFlat variants. But you're right, the 900NF is one of the highest performing 19" monitor in the market, and one of the cheapest DiamondTron NF tube monitor as well.
