How's the onboard sound for MSI, DFI 939 boards?

im guessing technology has improved since the introduction of the athlon xp cpus so is the onboard sound considered to be very good now? or do you still recommend buying an additional sound card... like a creative 5.1 value card?

Give the onboard a try, if you don't like it buy a new sound card.

The situation has not improved since socket A, in fact things were a little better back then (comparing to current socket 939 mobos) with SoundStorm.
MSI's SLI board has a Creative Live! onboard, and most Intel mobos have hi-def audio (Azalia). Other than those things are not very good.
