In NYC, Verizon > *. Heard something about their billing not being reliable or something of that sort.

Riverside, CA and the desert to the east, absolute junk. Cingular rules here. I remember in 2000 I tossed my damn Samsung SCH-3500 and it broke into a few hundred pieces. Either way, not going to get or make any calls.

Well, I guess I never tried it out there in 2000 but as of a couple of years ago I know it works fine in Redlands.

Overall Sprint had been great for me in Socal/Bay Area/etc.

You're in Flushing... we did have a couple of dead spots there on Main St... the recipient phone (Sprint) would go right to voicemail (this was just a couple weeks ago).

I'm in LI and it was good outdoors, but not in my house. I barely got 1 bar and would ALWAYS get dropped. I switched to VZW in Jan'04 and get at least 2 bars and never get dropped in my house. Sprint did send me something in the mail saying they've recently added a tower in my area... so at least they are trying to make advances. I'm happy with VZW though.

I used to travel in college on the debate team, and I didn't have any problems. I frequently went to rural colleges too, but usually college towns will be covered, so it's not a huge surprise. Bethel College in Newton, KS was, though. Town of like 10 people not counting the college. Got great reception.

And for the record, if you have the $5 roaming plan, it technically says that you're only supposed to use no more than 1/2 of your minutes roaming, but I can tell you that it does not matter. You can use 100% of your minutes roaming, and they won't do anything. Even if they did (which, seriously, they won't), they won't charge you or anything, they just technically could tell you to look at another carrier.

Yeah that's why I wasn't sure whether to get Sprint or not. I live right off Main St, plus I live in a building so I'm guessing my reception is gonna be pretty bad.
