How's Geico ?

So I went online and filled out the Geico quote.

They are quoting me half what I currently pay. I can save about $1,500 a year by going with Geico.

I currently use Allstate and have no complaints, but I wonder is it really worth that much ? Can you share your positive or negative experiences with Geico ?

Basically, what is the catch ?

The catch is that they're prejudice against cavemen.

I have Geico and I currently don't have issue with them. Of course, this is due in part to the (knock on wood) fact that I haven't really had to make any claims.

You have to take your car to their claim center for an estimate (if driveable) and unless they have changed they will not pay for factory replacements if there is an aftermarket alternative available at a cheaper price. I dropped Geico after we bought our first house. I called them to inquire about getting my homeowners insurance through them and the CSR accused me of trying to commit fraud because we were going to rent back to the original owners for a period of up to 2 months from the settlement date in case their new house was not completed by the promised date. No other insurance company I called had any issue with this very common real estate practice.

GEICO's prices really aren't all that great. They wanted something stupid like $3,000 a year to insure my 03 Audi A4 when I still lived in NY, so I switched to Progressive when they gave me a quote about HALF of that.

Progressive was just the opposite for me. I since switched to Geico and pay half of what I paid with Progressive. It's still pretty expensive due to me being 20, so I need to shop around a bit more.

I havent found anyone cheaper than progressive so i stay with them, $45 a month for 100/300/100k coverage with a $500 deductible on a 2005 scion TC is the cheapest i can find.

i found geico to be cheaper than everything else we got quoted with, so we're happily using geico... no catch for now. in fact, our car was involved in a hit-and-run and they didn't even raise our premiums.

Saved a bunch of money by going with them instead of Progessive
for a '99 Civic DX hatchback (liability coverage only). Seem to offer
nearly the same coverage.

Geico sucked for me - and I've never gotten a ticket, let alone made any kind of insurance claim. USAA was by far the cheapest for me.

I guess the reason they have lower quotes (for some not all) is because they don't have any agents. Everything is done through phone and so no agent cut but downside is you never see a real person even when during a claim. I have had Geico for over 2 years now but still can't comment on it because I never had a claim (knock on wood)

I've yet to find anything cheaper than who i use now, including geico and progressive.

i pay $890 a year for full coverage on my 99 Saab 9-5. im 19 w/ clean record (my one ticket wont be shown on insurance due to it being on the turnpike in ohio).

it might be due to my uncle being our rep. but other than that its damn cheap.

Called Geico, the rep told me that "oh, you're a public school teacher? You qualify for what our name represents: GEico = Government Employee..." Full coverage on dodge grand caravan, minimum coverage on ford escort... $600-something a year. (I'm a good driver 🙂 )
