Well, considering I live in Florida I doubt I'll be seeing much mountain areas. :D I was saying I have a mountain bike currently, but am looking into buying a road bike for riding around town and such for exercise.

Set aside a budget for yourself and look around. Road bikes are not cheap but they usually last a very long time so treat it as an investment on your health, if anything. Don't forget to set aside some money for clothes and shoes as well. Having a good pair of padded biking shorts makes a world of difference on longer rides. You'll need biking shoes because you'll want pedals you can clip into. With that said, a lot of road bikes don't come with pedals at all (or if they do, it's just junk ones) so you'll need to buy those separately. It may all seem complicated but trust me, once you get that bike setup the way you like then it's all enjoyable riding for years to come. Nothing better than getting an itch to actually ride. Burning calories will just be an afterthought.

I'm finding that the only exercise that works is exercise that I actually enjoy doing.I feel uncomfortable and out of place at the gym among all the young hotties who go there.OTOH,I really love riding my bike, I like the feeling of freedom,I like keeping track of how long it takes me to get places and seeing those times decrease each week.I love noticing how hills that were hard at the start of the season are so much easier now.

Riding my bike allows me to run errands, get some sun and also allows for soome private "me" time, no phones ringing,no other demands, just me,the bike and the road in front of me,it's a great stress reliever and I get anxious when I can't ride every day.

As far as weight goes, I find it's excellent to help me stay lean, I also walk a lot and do some ab work at home.

dont do 1-2 hrs of cardio a day dont need to, just start with 30-40 min every other day and eat more greens, drink more water, dont drink pop or beer, drink green tea and get sleep. You can add in weights, but do it on off cardio days.

I biked about 21 miles today after work today in about 1 1/2 including waiting at lights to cross streets.

My max heart rate was 154 and my average heart rate was about 123.

When I workout for 1/2 hr on my Gazelle, my max heart rate is about 178 and my average heart rate is about 145.

I just started biking and until I can get my leg stength up, it's not that great a cardio workout for me.
