I didn't know much about HS before I saw Private Parts, which was last night. I knew some, had heard some of his stuff (I have a tape of a radio schtick he did in the early 80's, some outrageous on-the-radio strip tease), know his reputation.

I thought of him as his stereotype as a "shock jock." But he's much more than that. I was extremely impressed by the movie. I figured him for a jerk who capitalized on his image and sensationalism, but he's actually clearly an artist, sensitive, intelligent and very very human. He looks more than anyone else like Joey Ramone and I bet they were friends. He's a whole lot better looking than I imagined he'd look. That movie was made in 1997, BTW. I thought for a while it was an actor.

Well, I'm curious to know if I can hear him. I live in Berkeley, CA. I don't have cable TV or dish or anything. Just good rooftop antenna. Sirius? What's that? Hahahahaha.

You can get his SF show in Berkeley. Be aware he is on vacation this week, and so you'll hear "Best Of," rather than live shows. If you can't get a good signal, you can download each day's show commercial-free on alt.binaries.howard-stern.

Listen on the radio if it's available, if necessary the radio shows can be downloaded from usenet. Lawyers usually shut down archival websites in short order if you can even find one.

heh, hope this doesn't ruin it for you, but he got divorced in '99. The head writer departed a couple years later. So the show is somewhat different now, although I'd still listen to him over any of the imitators.

Yep. I just programmed it into my receiver. Thanks!! Not sure it's coming in OK, it sounds a bit fuzzy. Live 105. Oh, man. Maybe it was the song. Guess it's OK. Don't know if I can stand the station but I want to hear the HS show, so I'll check it out.

His movie = really good & made me realize there was more to him than meets the eye.

His radio/tv show = low-brow crap that I can't stand.

In all fairness, his TV show presents a VERY limited slice of the dumbest part of his hilarious radio show.

Live 105 is a great alternative ROCK station. Stern is on from 6-10:30am everyday.

the TV show is heavily biased towards stripping and pornstars and playmates, which for the most part is the most boring and predictable thing he does, because E gets its best ratings for the eye candy. As DonVito is alluding to, that's basically a misrepresentation of what occurs during the bulk of his day on the radio.

OK, but that's not what I call alternative rock. College radio in the SF Bay Area is what I call alternative rock. I'll check out Howard, though. Thanks for the hours specs.

I guess they replaced that old fart Alex Bennett with Howard Stern. That must have really frosted his cookies!

I was kinda guessing that. I can't imagine him being so popular if that's *all* it was.

Exactly.

BTW: Artie > Jackie, and it was the best move he ever made. Artie is one of the funniest people ever.

On a side note does anyone know what happened to K.C. on the show? I haven't heard him on in a while.

I'm not sure. When Stern had his forum up people would constantly ask, but no one from the show would comment.

My guess would be that he quietly left the show, got some help and moved on with his life.

I don't think he could handle the show and he had a severe gambling problem. He made $300k at an online casino once and before they could give him all of his money he lost it all and I think he ended up being down $10k.

Yeah, they actually did an intervention for KC last summer, after he lost $330,000 at goldenpalace.com. Howard was saying for a while that KC was taking time off for personal reasons, but when a caller asked about KC last week, he basically just confirmed that no, KC wasn't there. Someone on sternfannetwork posted this just last weekend about KC:

I went to the comedy show featuring Craig Gass and KC Armstrong in LA tonight. KC looked good except he wasn't tan anymore. I saw him before the show walking through the club holding hands with a blond chick. (I recognized who she is too. Should I say?) Anyways he did his set on stage and mentioned that he was in LA for alcohol rehab.

EDIT:

A STERN FAN NETWORK EXCLUSIVE

A HOWARD STERN EXCLUSIVE

I'm 99.9% sure that the girl I saw KC Armstrong holding hands with at the comedy club in LA is this girl on the 'Meet the Creeps' DVD. Her name is Anna Lexington.

BTW, next week's Monday show should be interesting, because the SEC subpoenaed annoying Stern show hanger-on Chaunce Hayden about possible insider trading related to Howard's move to Sirius. I have to think this will go nowhere, because Howard is very professional and fastidious about keeping these kinds of secrets, and he sure as hell wouldn't risk his future by bragging to Chaunce of all people.

Also, I imagine his comments on the Academy Awards will be funny.
