Howard Stern back on terrestrial radio?

pontifex

Lifer
I usually listen to my mp3 player through an FM transmitter while in my car. however, yesterday on my way home, i lost the signal from my fm transmitter and Howard Stern came through for a few seconds. I coudln't get it to stay and it eventually picked up another station or something.

is he back on terrestrial radio? is there a list somewhere of what stations he is on? I live in central PA if that matters.

you likely drove by or were near someone (like me) that has a Sirius FM transmitter in their car to do the same thing you are doing w/ your mp3 player...this has happened to otheres before, no he's not back on terrestrial 🙂

That's probably what happened.

oh, didn't think of that. forgot that some people do use fm transmitters for sat. radio.
that sucks. i don't think i'm ready to spend $12.95 a month just to listen to howard.

He's not, and he has repeatedly said he won't return to terrestrial radio under any circumstances. I doubt any of his former stations was playing reruns, since I think he now has exclusive rights to the tapes from his CBS/Viacom days. I guess it's possible you were driving past someone with a Sirius radio and its internal FM transmitter made it into your car - the FM transmitters in those units are quite powerful.

Also you could have been picking up a pirate radio signal. There has been a lot of that with Stern since he moved to Sirius.

The SIRIUS units have a good 1/4-1/2 mile range on them in all directions. I know this because I had my wife drive behind me with her radio tuned into my SIRIUS receiver. Pretty cool actually..

that's absolutely ridiculous. my FM transmitter has a range of about 10 feet... 🙁

No.. really, I'm absolutely serious!! (haha, no pun intended). I have the old SIRIUS Orbiter (I don't think this is made anymore) with a docking station for my truck. The docking station is what actually has the FM transmitter built in and it's a good one too. That thing will even trounce any interference from an existing radio station on the same freq!!

Concidering that he now owns all of his tapes from K-rock. I doubt anybody would risk getting sued by him for playing them OTA.

It was the FM transmitter on a sirius unit from a close by car.

I used to use an FM transmittor for my sirius and always wondered if someone driving by might happen to catch what I was listening to.

BTW, for you using the transmittor still, may I recommend going with a tuner that plugs directly into your head unit? The difference is night and day and I can never go back to useing an FM transmittor.
