For those of you with small children, how young is too young for your kid to have his own computer???? 🙂

Mine!

That's right, he's a hair twirler... It's pretty cute!

I tell people my son is 2 and has his own computer and they look at me like.. "Ok, you geek, if you say so"

He is learning alot!! I would advise any young parent to do the same...

and oh yeah baby, he's got an E-Machine!

im 13 and i have my own computer. my dad bought it for me, its nice with an athlon 1.4 and all...im gettin a radeon 8500 this week too 😀 i think kids should get a computer if their parents are willing, no matter what their age is. i think computers can like...really help them out, just like it did with me, playing with the 286 when i was just a baby

lol kenazo got to it b4 me.. beware of the porn.. the lure is strong..sooo strong🙂 on the bright side it will help develop ur kids computer skills when he has to get past all the filter software🙂

My cousin said she'd let her daughter use the comp at age 1 1/2?? Isn't that kinda too young!? Oh well.....

I thought too much screen time was unhealthy for kids.......

<< Cool 🙂

Just out of curiosity however...why do you have a nice LCD hooked up to an eMachine? Like putting a v8 in a fiero.

Ya, but they all can't get out of their fire-o's because the frame warped so bad the doors will not open 😛

<< my grandchildren have computers that I built for em >>

Jean, you have grandchildren?!!! :Q

Youz one fine gramma! LOL 😉

I got my first computer when I was in 10th grade (3 years ago), it was my brothers old Cyrix 120mhz computer. It was awesome.

4 of em 😀

My little brother and sister (twins, 5 years old now) have been using a computer since the first time I ever had to babysit them (well before they could talk).
At the time they just liked to bang on the keys.
Now they have gotten quite good at navigating the computer and they have a lot of games they like to play. They're already getting to the point where they almost know more about it than my parents do, already. I thought the trackball would pose a problem for them, but they are using it just fine.

I think I had my first computer at the age of 10...bought and paid for it myself, too. I'm 21 now.

my daughter is 3 and a half, and she likes to look at pictures in ACDSee of herself and our family, and she has figured out how to hit the spacebar to change pictures, but as far as the computer being "hers" or somewhere that she can access it without help, I think she is several years too young. I have no problem slowly showing her more things, but I certainly wouldn't put an LCD at that level....that doesn't look like it will last too long!

I am thinking that when she goes to school, maybe around 2nd grade or so, I'll hook her up with her own...

My son is almost one....getting his Quake mouse hand ready...I need deathmatch opponents!

ROFL....dad's wanted their kids to grow up so they would have someone to talk about cars and sports with. Boy how times have changed 😀😉

IS THAT A KDS 17" LCD?! OMG...your kid has a better display than I do...lol. I started on a Macintosh II at age four. It's never too young, especially in today's electronic society - your kid will have a jumpstart on the world!

I'd imagine that a LCD would be better for kids, less radiation if any.

NeoV: Haha, I know what you mean. My nephew(now 13) used to kick my ass in UT, Q2, Q3..etc. Until his mother decided those games were no good for him! :| Now he kicks my ass in AOE2, RA2, ...etc. 😀

It is your decision of course. I don't believe there is any set age for kids to have their own computer. My boys are 7 and 10 and they have had a computer in their room for several years partly so they could use Reader Rabbit and similiar programs and partly because Dad was doing network admin stuff and wanted an excuse to buy more computer stuff. 😀 They don't get on the net w/o their mother or I being there. I try to limit their time on the comp. as well as the playstation, gameboys, etc. I would prefer they were outside playing with their buddies not sitting in front of the computer or the television. JMO.

I've got an 11 month old daughter and she already loves banging on the keys. I'll give her my old pentium system just as soon as she's old enough to learn to use it. As far as the Internet goes, she'll be on with one of the Net Nanny programs and parental supervision.

I must say, having a grandmother build computers is very cool. My grandmother has never even been on a computer 🙁

Hats off to you!

As soon as my kid can sit up, I am going to have her/him sitting at the computer with me.
