How would you stand up in combat?

I was talking with my friends about it. discussing how in movies, when someone gets shot in the arm, leg etc, they can still run a marathon and kick 5 guys asses at the end of it.

In real life, if you get shot in the arm, you aren't gonna be punching anyone and would more likely be on the ground hurting from the pain.

Anyway, I was curious, how do you guys think you would stand up if you were in combat and were getting shot at with real bullets?

I'd have to say I could handle it fairly well. Through 8 years of amateur wrestling in school I've developed a fair degree of pain tolerance. I've been told that when you actually hear the bullets whizzing by, it's a different situation entirely, but I think I have the right mindset to be able to handle it. After all, I lived near Oakland, CA for years, so I know what gunshots sound like.

After seeing that guy in Saving Private Ryan that was screaming while holding his spilled-out intestines, I officially became a coward. You couldn't get me volunteer for war even if you paid me a lot of money...

I do well in outdoor paintball, but you have the mindset that the balls wont kill you if they hit you, so you become more of a risk taker.

Well I would make sure I was in a tank and there were no landmines or people with anti-tank rockets. 🙂

I really think i would rather be in infantry than in a tank.

When you are in the infantry, you only have the gun in front of you to rely on and yourself.

I would feel safe in a tank but at the same time incredibly vulnerable.

If the infantry can close the distance on a tank then the tank is done for as Saving Private Ryan shows, its so easy to chuck a grenade in there and then your basically in an oven.

Also tanks would draw fire and be a big target for enemy choppers and planes.

If you are in the infantry its relatively easy for you to hide if you have to etc.

LOL Rogue....

if you think "amateur wrestling" can give you a high tolerance of pain, in COMPARISON to a bullet, go stand in front a firing range target...🙂

I wouldn't be standing up. I would be lying down, preferably on a nice tropical island somewhere where women in little bikini's would serve me drinks with fruit and umbrellas in them.

Seriously, I want big, strong, testosterone-laden guys out there fighting battles, breaking stuff and killing people. I just know that I am not the man for the job.

I'm a lover, not a fighter (and if you ask my wife, neither). 😀😉

I've never been shot (and like it that way) but if anyone has had a torn muscle they know that it is excruciating, much less a torn hamstring or calf. I imagine a bullet would feel similar and it would be near impossible to get around on. Also if you are shot in an artery where there is alot of blood loss your blood pressure could drop significantly and there are lots of physical ramifications to this that would be insurmountable. But I hope I never find out first hand. 🙂

I'd definately be into being able to legally kill people. I'd probably get a rush out of being able to "thin out the heard". (mental image of Ned from SouthPark saying "thin out their numbers&quot😉.

With a bullet in my arm I think I would be on the ground in pain. Without the bullet I think I could do pretty well. Karate Rocks!

actually if you get shot, the shock and endorphins will kick in and it won't hurt all that much. You may start hyperventilating and shivering from it though. When the endorphins run out then you will be in a WORLD of pain. I can imagine it is much, much worse than a torn hamstring.

if it's anything like CS, watch out for AWP. headshot ya know... that'd definately leave a mark, plus it would hurt like heck for split second. then you're dead 😉

<< i SERIOUSLY doubt that it would be like CS.

I doubt you can circle strafe someone in real life.
>>

uhhhh...it was a joke, man...

there are a number of things to consider. what was the caliber of the bullet? if it's anything large, by getting shot in the arm, you would LOSE your arm, as in tear it right off. assuming small calibre, and not hollow point, i think i could take it. between my years of jiu jitsu, my fondness of piercings and getting beaten up in school, i have quite a high tolerance of pain. but i'll never know til it happens 😉
