How would you spend $1 billion in a year?

I'd build the largest condo complex in downtown Toronto and then charge $30K for the underground parking spots alone.

Wow, that puts a lot of perspective on how rich Bill Gates is. First week will be for me, the rest of the other weeks would be for others who are going bankrupt from the starving economy. I'm pretty sure I can find a lot of needy people to use up all that cash.

I would buy an island, 20mil gets you a nice small one so around 100mil should get you a good size one, then I would make it entirely self sufficient, with everything I could possibly need including a massive typhoon proof luxury bunker and some kind of floating dock about fifty miles away for weekly deliveries..

It would have to be at least five miles across so I could build a road course, drag strip and a banked oval.........

My fridge and pantry would be my own private grocery store(not huge) .....

There would be huge speakers (maybe on poles that look like palm trees) everywhere and the music would be cranked to concert volume.......

There would definetly be a cerain HOTTIE who would be welcome whenever she likes and to come and go as she pleases(using the batcave method of transport)

There would be massive partys (using same transport method as the HOTTIE)

And of course the house would have every conceivable luxury........

That covers most of the big stuff, I think a billion should cover it 😀

100 million saved for all the bills and utilities
250 million buy a sports team

I would get myself a big yacht, mansion, cars and all that stuff, then I would buy some island in the carribean and build a huge hotel there a 5 star hotel, it would be the second in the world (the current one is in the united arab emirates.)
 
Damn, islands are cheaper than I thought, that 100mil would cover landscaping and deadly pest removal.

Found a 1300 acre island for 22mil
 
Buy land.. land.. and more land.

Then proceed to build a state of the art road course on on plot; a hotel on another; an apartment complex, housing all across the nation/world.
 
Let's see...

First I would pay off all the debts that my family currently owed including their mortgages so that they could have much more freedom with their money. For anyone in my family that didnt own their own home I would probably buy them one. I would put money aside for each of my younger cousins and nieces and nephews for their education. After that I would pay for my entire family to take a vacation somewhere like...the Mediterranean.

Once I got that out of the way I would purchase one helluva home somewhere in the Walnut Creek hills and then furnish it and of course the obligatory motor vehicle fleet. A luxury sedan, an SUV of some sort, a sports car, and something to go play in the mud with would start off nicely. After that a few ATV's, a couple jetskis, and maybe a pair of boats would do nicely.

Once I took care of my personal needs I would donate a large chunk to the Leukemia Research Foundation so that hopefully no one else would ever have to lose a loved one to the disease. After a bit of local philanthropy to various organizations I would probably look into buying a sports team and then invest the rest so that I would always have the means to take care of those I loved. I think the Oakland Athletics would do nice along with a new stadium down in Jack London Square so that they could get the revenues to compete.

After that who knows? I really have no idea how much money it would take to accomplish all of that and so it's hard to say what else I might do because I might have spent all of the money long before I finished those things off the top of my head. Okay, thats about enough for now. Thanks to anyone who actually read all of that because I can't sleep tonight and I'm hoping that I can tire myself out...

It depends where the islands are at, also 5 miles across is a little different than 1300 acres 🙂.

There is some property here in Palm Beach that sells for close to that without a house on it....

Living on an island is at least 10x the cost of living on the mainland, there are some places in the mountains that are geographically isolated too....my brother was hired to bring internet access to a small private and very rich community in the NC mountains. Helicopter is the only way in and out.
 
I'd buy the radio station I work at, that'd be about $2 million. Then I'd make improvements, that would be another $3 or 4 million. I'd hire new people, give the current people raises, and fire certain people here.

I'd build a house in Slidell, LA. Maybe a $20 million house. I'd also buy as much land as I could in Montana. I'd buy a car, and build a private race track.

Then I'd give $100 million to various charities.
 
I'd buy a lot of land, build a decent house on it, and construct a huge mansion underground. Lots of computers. Lots of bandwidth. 🙂
 
After making sure our respective extended families were cared for I'd buy me and my dude lots of toys! New cars,motorcycles,a house or three,some travel,and a trip to the plastic suregeon with a nice recouperation at a spa for me🙂
