If I had time to think about it rationally, and they are a a few feet away, toss the wallet towarsd them and let it land on the ground.... if they go for the wallet, they will probably take that and leave, if they keep the gun on you, they are probably thinking about killing you...

If the gun is pointed at me, and I am too far from them to move much before getting shot, what can I do? nothing really, maybe the "Oh ******!" and point behind him, and jump him :)

If they are close enough, and not stronger than me, acting like a pansy and frightened, and then suddenly moving out of the way of the gun while knocking it to the side and grabbing their gun arm keeping it pointed away seems like an option.

Basically, the OP said, what would you do if you basically knew you were dead, that they were going to shoot.... If I could somehow know that 100%, I would go down fighting like a mofo, why not? Best case is you get out of it, worst case is , you are dead anyway.

I would convert to Hinduism, then bite them with my poisonous fangs. If they shoot at me and kill me, I would be reincarnated anyway.

pull out your wallet, and then drop it and grab your chest, and go AAAAAaaaaaarrrrgghhhh
and fall over like you died.

They probably wont bother shooting you

Been in the situation with a knife... Ended up stabbed because I didn't care and had no money on me.

I think a lot of you "e-thugs" aren't being realistic as to how you would react in such a situation.

You say, "OH I'D PULLZ OUT MY GUNZ AND GO BLADDOW TO THAT MUTHATRUCKA...!!!"

Riiight. Most of you know that the wise decision would to be to just give up what they want (assuming it's just something small, like a material knick knack.) Because there are some crazy people out there who would pull their trigger long before you're able to reach in and pull out your weapon.

But what do you in a situation where a person pulls a gun on you for whatever reason and they appear to be very agitated or disturbed and it's possibility you may get shot?

RTFOP

It is assumed you already did give them what they want, and they have now decided to kill you for whatever reason....

Same here, minus the screaming and running away. I'm not a vocal person by any measure, and I'm the kind who just totally freezes up when under stress.

That's exactly my point.

A nervous and "crazy" looking criminal would be the most dangerous.

By the time you pull out your weapon, you'll be dead.

The only time to pull out your weapon would be if you thought the criminal was bluffing.

So UYBBYRTMP. (Use your brain before you respond to my posts).

Did anyone read the OP? He wants to know what you'd do if just meeting their demands wouldn't stop them from shooting you.

Honestly, probably duck and try to run in a wild and zig zag pattern. Chances are the mugger does not have very good aim. Regardless of what you see on TV, if you shoot a pistol and aren't trained it is very hard to hit a stationary target the size of a human 15 feet away. I'd just pray that the guy is a crazy crack addict with the shakes.

Probably book it into the first brush I could find. Pistol rounds don't do a whole lot of damage on impact, that's why cops have those special rounds.
You know those "special rounds" are available at Wal-Mart?
The difference between a Law Enforcement Officer shooting at you and a typical street thug shooting at you is HOURS OF TRAINING.
Statistics say that most handgun battles occur at less than 20 ft.
You can be killed dead by a .22 long at that range.
Gun control means tight grouping.

Some people on this forum have told me that if someone were picking on me, and they were bigger than me, that I should still fight back, because the morally right thing to do would be to stand up for myself, regardless of consequences.

And yet, here in this situation, many advize the opposite. Give in no matter what if they had a gun.

Would anyone here stand up for themselves and tell the man with the gun to **** off? Granted you might die? But make them get what they want the hard way?

I dont know if I could do it. But I have to be honest, there is something admirable about a person who doesnt give in to complying with evil deeds.

This presumes you have a gun.
How about if you were unarmed, you know, like most of the rest of the citizens?

I always have a gun when in public.
You haven't answered the question. I know as an LEO you are supposed to be armed, yet your right to carry doesn't include every situation, such as international air travel and travel abroad.
Answer the question as it's posed, You're not armed, someone confronts you with a handgun. What would you do, given your training and experience?

In that case it's harder to say. Thinking about it now I'd probably toss my wallet so that he had to move to pick it up. Depending on other factors, namely location, I'd either run or try to engage him physically while he goes for the wallet.

Although, if I still had my knife on me and he was close enough I might try stabbing. A knife beats a gun in many cases within 21 feet. But, it's hard to say. Without my sidearm I'd be less apt to engage him.

anyone here that carries been in a situation where you had to draw/fire your weapon?

I've never had to off-duty.

So when you are off duty and in public do you carry a gun? Are you allowed to carry the same one that you carry while on the job?

Most people can get a license to carry a gun in public as long as its concealed, right?

And police officers get that type of license (to carry off duty) automatically when they are sworn in, right?

I'd act non-confrontational and meek, give them what they want. If it still looked bad, I'd grab them if they were within reach. I have to work at the non-confrontational bit, I am big.
If they were far enough out of reach, I'd do whatever it took to get my hiney out of the line of fire:) Run, over a car, over a fence, outta there.

Nothing admirable about somebody stupid enough to meaninglessly sacrifice their life.

Yes, yes.

Yes.

Our police ID serves as a weapons permit and more (we don't actually need a concealed weapons permit).

man you are dumb...

Without taking my eyes off the perpatrator, I would engineer a firm kick in the balls, then teke his weapon away.

Ok, from what I understand, those who have concealed weapon permits still cannot have a weapon on them while in a vehicle, right? They have to keep it in the trunk?

Do you have to keep yours in trunk or can you have it on you?

What else are you allowed to do with a police ID while off duty?
