How would you react if Russia & China evacuated their major cities?

Last night I watched The Day After & Threads for the first time since I saw their broadcast (along with If You Love This Planet, Countdown to Looking Glass, Not Another News Story & When The Wind Blows) during the early-mid 80s. While the current political climate doesn't make these four movies as overwhelming as they were during the Reagan-Thatcher era, they still strong reminderrs of the horrors of a full-scale nuclear attack. For someone who lived during the Duck And Cover era, the sound of nuclear attack sirens goes right through your soul. Thankfully, I was only 5yo during the Cuban Missile Crisis and too young to understand what was happening and how close we came to armageddon. As for the other close calls during the 70s and later, they were not publicized so we were not aware of them until later.

So how would you react to full-scale evacuation of Russian and Chinese urban areas? Would you move to the countryside also, build/dig a nuclear shelter and stock up on essentials for survival? Are you amongst those who prefer to be vaporized directly under the blast for they think the remaining world would not be worth living in? Or are you, like me, amongst those who would feel it their duty to the human race to survive, reconstruct and re-educate?

BTW, just for sh*t and giggles, how far are you located for a major target? I live about 1.5km from Parliament and the Ministry of Defense, so I'd probably end up within the fireball of a moderate-yeld warhead.

Maybe I should watch Fail-Safe, On The Beach & Doctor Strangelove next week.

I'd feel more willing to go see if the government in charge was still in their offices in DC, and see if they could be offed for getting us into such a situation.

I'm in Erie, PA. I guess it could be a potential target. I believe they make either train engines here, or possibly parts for ships. There are also docks here that service ships in Lake Erie.

i already live in BFE, i'll let a couple of people put up tents in my yard

of course the B-2 base is only 25 miles to the east

I wouldn't worry about it. Neither Russia nor China are stupid enough to launch their missiles at anyone, because they are run by relatively rational people. What we need to worry about is the middle east getting their hands on a few nukes.

We could stop that, but that would be politically incorrect.

In all seriousness, getting nuked was more of a danger for the Chinese and Russians, than it was for us. It would have been even less of a danger if we could get Star Wars out, but the liberals/Smartasses/dumbasses decided to knock the idea in.
Gawd I hate liberals.

We should have moved our resource sliders towards "production" instead of "free love".

I'd be pretty much screwed... I live a couple miles outside of NYC. even if I wanted to get out, the roads would probably all be deadlocked.

if the roads were oddly empty, though, I'd probably drive out to my friends' place in PA. they live out near Amish country.

What planet were you on in the Cold War?

The Soviets had BULK nukes that would have turned your major cities into irradiated rubble, and vice versa.

We came very close to mutual annihilation during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Soviets had nukes on our doorstep and we had nuclear missile bombers in the air 24/7 at the time on their doorstep plus ICBMs. The whole planet would have been fracked.

Nothing...Hooray for middle-of-nowhere, Texas! Eat it, city slickers!

Oh wait...Army base 😱

I currently live and work well within the immediate kill zone of a several-hundred kiloton weapon. Which as the 3rd largest US metro area we would receive a few of most likely.

With advance warning I'd probably just go home to my old town where my guns are and try to make a go of it from there.

I'd sit back and watch, not doing much of anything.

I live 3 minutes from the Capitol, here in Michigan. But I don't think we'd be on the radar.

I'd get on ATOT and discuss the impending apocalpyse.

I also live just outside of Pittsburgh (and in Pittsburgh when I'm at school) so not sure if we'd be a target or not.

Yep, I was a young child of 6 and didn't know what was happening, but my Dad took off work in the middle of the day and drove us eighty miles away to a cabin in the boonies and we stayed there for 3 days. We lived within 10 miles of the command center of the strategic air command and many other targets in the area.

I live in Cleveland, which is kind of a big city, but I'm pretty sure no one actually lives in it so I think we'd be ok.

But really though, I wouldn't worry too much about China or Russia. It's Iran (ducks) and Korea (takes cover) that we should be more worried about.

apparently the place I live is like number 5 on the places to nuke list....its no where big but its near a nuclear power plant and a base....

I wouldnt worry about it. China is growing and the only way they are gonna grow more are if the world is still intact...same with Russia.

If the cities start to empty out...I have supplies in my basement including those anti radiation pills...but really if ****** goes down to the scale we are talking about...we are all dead anyway.

I was 6 during the Cuban missile crisis and lived in Alexandria, VA about 6 miles from DC but from what I remember my family pretty much went about business as normal when it was happening. I do remember my older brother and his friends trying to scare me with talk about it but it really was too abstract for me to worry about at that age.
