My department (social security disability) consists of 1 lawyer and myself. I would worry a lot about who the replacement attorney would be, but today at my latest evaluation I was told that the only way they will ever let me leave the company is in a body bag, so I feel relatively secure that if I had a problem with the new attorney they would change the attorney, not me.

Actually I'm planning on threatening to quit to get more money and a retention bonus since I'm the only one left that knows anything.

Be careful, that can backfire. Management can be real stupid most of the time.

I'd just be worried about what my new boss's management style would be. I'm almost entirely autonomous at my job, and my boss is super flexible with my time.

A micro-manager would definitely suck in comparison, but I'd just deal with it since I'm pretty comfy at the moment.

I would be delighted. My boss is a glorified AA who's been at the company long enough that she was promoted WAAAAAY out of her depth. She has no idea what my teammates and I actually do, and her "coaching" would be laughable if it weren't so infuriating.

If she quit I'd have five resumes in the recruiter's hands immediately of people that would kick ass in my boss' job.
