How would you define high maintenance?

There are obviously different criteria for high maintenance. We'll just toss them together for the purposes of this thread. Men/women/physical/mental/etc. What would be considered high maintenance?

I'll start off:

Using myself as an example I would say that I am medium at this point. I shower everyday, shampoo and conditioner probably 20mins in the shower. I am always clean shaven and have trimmed nails. I cut my hair once every 2 weeks at the highest interval to keep it clean looking. I like to dress nice but not always. Here is my redemption though: I can wake up 5 minutes before I plan on leaving the house and get everything that I need to get done done. It usually means me running out the door but I can do it.

High maintenance means needing constant validation about your looks, ability, etc rather than having the quiet confidence to go about your life and not worry about what others think so much.

honestly i think being meticulous with personal hygiene doesnt count towards high maintenance. its more of a personality descriptor for someone that needs alot of monetary, material, and superficial reaffirmation.

High maintenance means you are taking over the role of daddy in her life and further fulfilling her every wish and demand as the princess of everything pretty and great in this world.

I never placed high maintenance on a guy before. I had no idea guys were high maintenance. I don't think women would run around fulfilling the needs of a man, much like his mother would, as if he was a spoiled little boy.

"always clean shaven and have trimmed balls."
that's how i read it, and i would call that proper maintenance, not high.

Hmm.. I always thought high maintenance also applied to how much time a person put into just simple maintenance such as hygiene or appearance.

Most (not all) women take a long time to get ready. Or, they schedule things so frequent and close, that they are always in "maintenance mode".

For a guy to take a long time, he is then referred to as "worse than a woman when getting ready". Or, he is "man-scaping".

Are these "bad" - for me; no. If you want to spend all your time getting ready, whatever. But, thats how I look at them. I guess I should think about it a little more, since my views aren't accounting for everything. But, then again, whatever.

High maintenance refers to how much it's going to cost to keep her hanging with you. She'll be gone when she finds someone with deeper pockets.

"high maintenance" is how a girl acts to require something of you for her to stay interested when she really wasnt that interested to begin with.

High maintenance, in my books, basically means you are her self-esteem booster. She requires compliments all the time, asks you to reaffirm that you find her beautiful/love her/do you think that X is good/bad about her, etc.

Girls that want you to buy them lots of stuff aren't high maintenance, they're just gold diggers.

Nah. It's more like others have said. It's more what a person requires from you in order to be around them -- whether it be constant validation, uncritical agreement, or constant favors, money and basically, attention.

It can stem from deep insecurity or be as basic as complete narcissism. Either way, it's hard to be around for long.

Nobody
is worth this basic imbalance, even the hottest chick you could imagine. If you think so, you just haven't lived long enough yet.
