If SETI were to succeed would it alter your philosophy? your belief system? Would you be willing to accept the fact that you are intellectually inferior to them as dogs are to you?

Think about. :p

I don't know if I'd really care... but maybe they would be the inferior ones and I'd be laughing? :D

If Extra-Terrestrials were to turn out to be superior, at least there's hope their English spelling, grammar and syntax skills would be above the English-speaking, terrestrial average.

:D

How do you not know that you are a decendent of an alien race from the former planet mars that escaped in a space ship and headed to this planet to re-populate since there planet was desimmated by a comet that destroyed the atmosphere. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!;)

They don't have to be superior though. How about if they just have some kind of combustible which allowed them to travel to earth ?

combustible?? do you mean engine?? When i say superior, I mean technologically, and therefore intellectually. Unless theyre some kind of weird species that steals technology like that race in voyager does, or the BORG, hehe :D

jhu: surprisingly the aliens I've seen were all speaking German, if they spoke at all.

"Alien intelligence" doesn't that mean there is "non-alien intelligence"LOL, my sti@earth wasn't successful yet.

I think we should start at home first and look for intelligence in:

SUV drivers on the cell phone weaving all over the road.

Stoopid &%#$@!

That's not necessarily true. Anthropologists say that the human beings of today are exactly the same as the human beings of five thousand years ago. But our technology today is vastly superior to early human civilizations. So what's the difference? Five thousand years. It might be the case that aliens with superior technology could be less or have equivalent intelligence than human beings, but simply had a headstart in developing technology. Damn star trek-ish TV shows and movies brainwashing people into thinking that superior technology=superior intelligence.

I understand your point, as the only difference between a human now and 5000 yrs ago, is physical feature. Our brains take much much longer to evolve. However, what you fail to consider is that if this race has superior techonolgy, in order to maintain and use this tech it must be first understood. If you give a child instructions to build a particle accelerator, you think they would be able to do it? I think not. Same goes with this superior tech, you must have a better understanding of the universe and how it works in order to use it. Certainly any species who can build an engine which can go faster than light, obviously has a better grasp on the universe, than our top scientists, who are still struggling with einstein's theory(and how it is possible to travel faster than light, if possible) as well as trying to bring about an unified theory. Superiority means to me what i said above, a better grasp on the inner workings of the universe. Therefore, any aliens which can travel to earth will be superior intellectualy. However, the rest, i.e. culture, language, etc. is all relative. So, if youre theory is correct, if we bring back a person from 5000 years ago and raise them on out society, would they be as capable as anyone now? Yes i certainly think so. :)

Damn star trek-ish TV shows and movies brainwashing people into thinking that superior technology=superior intelligence.

Frankly, Im insulted that you would say such a thing! :D. me, brainwashed, nah......[drooling]must watch star-trek....[/drooling]

What makes you think they need to build an engine that can travel faster than light ?

How about if there are Aliens from Mars and they came to Earth ???
Their engines don't need to travel faster than light

Cryogenic technology and automation would pretty much eliminate the need for faster than light travel . . . just kick it up to a good velocity - say around .1 or .2C, where dilation effects would be minimal, and snooze for a couple hundred years.
