Hi. I'm looking at buying an EPOX KP6-BS Dual Pentium III Slot 1 Motherboard from some guy on the Sales/Trade forum. But he says it has a burnt volt regulator but "should be fixable." How would I go about fixing something like that?

Cheers.

Have any soldering experience? I'd guess not since you are asking this question. It is pretty long shot doing this if it is your first try.
Get youself some worthless junk circuit board and practice on it.

Here is one way:

Find out the part number of the regulator and buy a replacement. Often the body has info on it which will identify it.

If it if is bolted down remove the bolt.

Crush the body or cut the leads, to leave the separate leads. It easier to remove one lead at a time.

Heat a lead while holding onto it with needle nose pliers. Avoid heating the circuit board directly, but heat the lead close to the board. Adding a little new solder often helps melt the old stuff faster. Faster means less possible damage to the circuit traces. As the solder melts, remove the lead. Avoid tearing the solder pads or traces off the circuit board. If there is solder in the hole, remove it with a solder sucker.

I'm not sure if this helps.

But he says it has a burnt volt regulator but "should be fixable."

Can you be guaranteed that that is the ONLY problem with this board? Remember, If you buy it and try to fix it yourself, there is no going back or refunds. Sounds kinda risky to me..

I'm not sure what you are looking for. As I recall, somewhere on their site EPOX says they will repair their mobos for a fee. You will also pay shipping both ways.
