How would a Voodoo 5 perform on a P II 300?

I assume you mean the current batch of 3D games?

They would run, but none of them would be playable because they'd run far too slow. Don't even think about buying a new video card until you get a new CPU.

I really would upgrade the CPU, even if it meant sticking a Celery533 in or something. They're cheap enough to throw into a crappy rig.

I do not know about a V5, but I have a Radeon 32MB DDR in my Celeron 300A. For Quake 3, I get ~42 fps @ 800x600 in 32 bit. o/c the 300A to 450 puts me at ~48 fps @ 800x600 in 32 bit. While not great, it is playable.

Next up for me is a CPU upgrade. Flight sims need a lot of CPU horsepower, and that is my favorite game.

In short, both you and I are CPU limited.

lifeguard, that is odd maybe something is wrong with your system? before my cel 950 i had cel450a with radeon32 DDR. and i played 1024x768x32bit with everything to highest and i get 58fps on demo001 and in game was usually 40~70fps.

i did have overclocked radeon but it only gave 10% increase so something is wrong with your setup?

and Ndee i sugess you just play with your current system as long as you can and get a whole new system later. (im talking about for p2 300). good luck

Interesting. I looked up the Radeon 32MB SDR (slower than my DDR) review and in the CPU scaling tests, the Celeron 433 (slower than my o/c 450) scores 62 fps in 640x480x32. I score ~48 fps.

I have a 300A o/c to 450; ASUS P3V4X; 128 MB CAS3 PC133; Memory is running at +33; Vsync is off in both ATI's OpenGL and Advanced menus; Radeon 32 MB DDR at 200/200. See anything wrong?

EDIT

Never mind. My mistake was in copying down the numbers. I had 42 fps on a 300A; 48 fps on a 300A with the Radeon o/c to 200/200; and 63 fps on a 450A.

Gee. I made member status & messed up in the same post. Appropriate, isn't it.
