You voted Libertarian but supported an increase in taxes?? 😕 You do realize that, with government now making more money per pack than the tobacco companies and the various governments becoming more dependent on this income, these taxes will do little to stop smoking, right? In fact, if these taxes continue, I fully expect for the government to begin encouraging smoking in a few years, as a way to increase revenue.Originally posted by: austonia

I support the increased tobacco penalty because it may make one+ person say "hell, it's not worth $4 a pack." on the other hand, i doubt not even one person will say "now that it's $4 a pack, time to start smoking."
the money goes towards education (think : thetruth.com), research, and to help pay for health care costs for aging smokers that otherwise have to paid for by the non-smoking majority. of course, I consider smoking-related health care costs a waste of MY taxes. this path may not be something we can call "extremely" effective, but it helps a little, and it's better than doing nothing. got a better plan to phase it out? or at least, keep it's effects from impacting the non-smoking majority?
That last sentance doesn't even need comment.

Straight ticket voters are mindless ignorant fools.
If you believe in what the party stands for you have to vote a straight ticket regardless if you like the candidates or not. Its the philosophical belief behind the party.
