And so the cold harsh reality of post Harvey insurance claims begins. Those without flood insurance will have to pay for their damage out of pocket. You'd think that any responsible person would carry flood insurance if they lived in a low lying area. Money for flood insurance or money to eat out or other recreational activities? It's a no brainer.

Yes, it's important for Trump critics to be accurate & non-petty to avoid false equivalency like your own.

I doubt even you believe "false equivalency". Its obvious both Democrat and Republican elites control media to preserve the GQ.
It's divide and conquer.

So, having lived in Houston most of my life I can tell you that you can not get flood insurance except from the federal government, and then only certain areas are eligible. Many of the people that got flooded will not have had the opportunity to buy it.

Both Sides! is inherently inaccurate & tedious in the extreme. Unlike Repubs, Dems haven't flinched wrt disaster relief or measures to strengthen American infrastructure against natural disaster.

Well the truth of the matter is that any home owner can purchase flood insurance if they want to. Only the national flood insurance program limits the participating areas and they have a locator for people on their website.

Trump personally pledged $1 million to Harvey victims but he's pledged money in the past that he never followed through on.

watched some coverage yesterday and today. CAN WE PLEASE STOP THE ASS KISSING OF POLITICIANS?

Yesterday Rec Dross, Salvation Army and Pence in the Oval. Trump went around the room and each person had to get in how great Trump was.

Today - Trump kissing too much politio ass as a church. How about keeping the focus on the local citizens, responders? It just makes me ill watching all the ass kissing all the time

Hey at least a staffer got to Slovenian mail order wife and traded that "FLOTUS" hat for a "Texas" hat. Hey honey, it ain't all about you!

Fake Donald with the misses in tow visiting a shelter was akin to being forced to watch Tom Cruise in a pink tutu performing ballerina. When he started picking up the children and kissing them I wondered to myself about which staffer advised him to pretend to be more personable to the victims.

FLOTUS on the other hand looked quite dashing in her all American girl next door outfit, however I think that the children would have been more receptive to her seeing her as a mother image. All in all having the VP mingle with victims first while he sat on his fat ass all alone at Camp David was all wrong but Pence is a more believable person.

So why stay? Knowing you wouldn't be properly insured?

Just released a new book a few days ago. Time for some free advertising.

You think that she's dumb? She might be past her 'best by date' but no, not dumb. She's managed a lucrative career telling American reactionaries exactly what they want to hear.

Precisely. Coulter just scams the rubes for the money & the ego trip. American conservatives have broken bullshit detectors. Their leadership has been utterly insincere for decades & they somehow can't see through it.

Trump is so ego driven I think the WH staff had "we love Trump" signs created and handed out before his visit. There is no way you can convince me people who have lost everything and their primary focus is food and shelter would take the time or would have the money to create signs for that guy.

Am I the only person watching that congress couldn't be bothered to return from their recess early to work on aid for people in TX?

One more day wouldn't matter.

They'll argue for months about what to do and then probably end up with nothing, or a plan that gives a shitload of money to contractors and does little to actually help victims.

This is why we need emergency agencies in place and properly funded all the time. We cant wait for capital hill to get organized every time something needs to be done.

Because it is one of the largest cities in the US with a population of over 6 million, has a booming economy with plentiful good jobs, has an amazingly low cost of living (really, you can by a 4/2/2 house in a decent neighborhood for under $100,000), is one of the US's most important sea ports, I grew up there and all my family lives there. Also, a lot of people simply can't afford to relocate.

In the end you can't really run from disasters. Most of the world has natural disasters. If it is not hurricanes it is wildfires, or earthquakes, or volcanos, or tornados, or avalanche, or, or, or...

If houses are so cheap, rebuild it yourself.

Harsh but gets to a core question of is it really low cost of living if you've gotta rebuild regularly and you can't get/afford insurance on it?
