How will this PC cope with older and upcoming games?

Hey guys, i was just wondering about this setup:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @2.66ghz

Memory: 4gb Dual Channel DDR2 800Mhz Memory

Motherboard: G31 MSI MS-7528

Power supply: Antec Neo Eco 520C 520W Power Supply

Direct x 11

500gb Sata 3gb/s Hard Disk Drive NCQ

Graphics card: Gainward GTX 560 ti 1GB Golden Sample

1600x900 resolution

Will this setup run newer games with high-max settings? Such as DA2, Crysis 2, Black ops and Total War Shogun?

What about upcoming games such as the Witcher 2 and Skyrim?

And will it max games like Dragon age origins, Cod 4, Left 4 dead, Mass Effect 2 etc.?

I'm trying to only upgrade what is essential, and this is the build i've come up with.

It will run alright at that resolution

When you say alright, do you mean high settings on newer games, max settings on older games, or just barely scraping by?

Could you be more specific?

@Slacker: Do i need a certain kind of motherboard to overclock my CPU? AS mine is not high quality. Does overclocking my CPU have to do with my motherboard capabilities? Or does it have nothing to do with the quality of the motherboard?

It's a good computer for gaming, but not fabulous. The cpu is a bit weak and some modern games really prefer a faster quad core. However, you would need to replace the entire mobo and ram as well to get a serious improvement. About the best you can do with what you have is overclock the cpu a bit. It should be fine for playing games like Crysis 2, but don't expect to be able to max out everything.

That 560 is pretty fast. The Q8400 might struggle in more modern games. But anywhere you aren't CPU limited you can max out most games with that card at that res.

It will cope very well!

Max settings with older games

High settings with newer games with the occasional medium-high.

That 560 is a beast and the old core2quads are still very capable CPU's, also i dont think theres games that need a system with more than 4GB of ram yet.

You won't be able to max anything with DX11 but DX9 yes, it can handle anything.

You should try to nudge your cpu up a bit at 3~3.2 ghz.

I have a quad core AMD 620 that runs at 2.6 ghz, my video card is an ATI 4850 with 512 megs of memory - I get a constant 70 - 100 frames per second in left 4 dead 2. That is with an in game resolution of 1360X1024, AA 4X, everything else pretty much on high.

The OP has a GTX 560 ti 1GB - his machine should rock modern and newer games.

If anything, I would upgrade the memory to either 6 or 8 gigs. Since you have 4 gigs of memory and dx11, I guess its 64 bit vita or windows 7. I could tell a difference between windows 7 with 4 gigs of memory and 6 gigs.

Adding an SSD would also smooth out jerkiness in some games, but its a minor improvement. Ram also tends to get more expensive the older it becomes because nobody wants to keep it in stock and 800mhz ram is about as old as you'll find anywhere. I'd just save up for a new mobo/cpu/ram. When bulldozer and ivy bridge come out within the next six months or so they'll drive down prices on the older models.

At that resolution you'll be fine, CPU limited in theory but I doubt it'll be noticeable for the majority of titles.

4GB of RAM is fine, and all an SSD will do is reduce map load times and very rarely mitigate "snap" loading when you suddenly load a lot of new textures.

If you want to upgrade, you're looking at a new mobo/ram/CPU since the performance increase you might see by upgrading from the q8400 to a higher end socket 775 CPU is not particularly good and it is particularly expensive. Not worth it.

At that low rez yes he could. Not all DX11 games are that demanding. Bad Company 2 isn't that demanding of a game but something like Metro 2033 is.
