I also noticed you said 59x0 series. So are you implying that the 9800Pro beats out the 5950U also, because that is very biased.

Actually, what I said was:

The 9800 Pro/XT outperformed the FX 59x0 series quite handily, especially in DX games.

Which basically means that R300 outperformed NV30 in general. Also, note that in a previous post that I mentioned that I did own an FX 5900 myself, but that this was primarily due to better Linux support from nVidia. For me, what nV lost in hardware with the FX series they made up for in software, which adds value to their card even though it is the (slightly) inferior performer.

The point that I am making is that this isn't a deciding factor for the X800 Pro, since the GT outperforms it in many cases, costs the same, and is backed by drivers that support more OS'es than ATi's card. There was absolutely no compelling reason for me to buy an X800 Pro this round. Do I think the X800 Pro sucks..? By no means.. It's a great card, but not for me.

That being said, I still think that for a Windows only gamer, ATi's 9800 series is/was a better option than nVidia's FX 59x0 series.

Well I have a msi 5900xt because I wanted a quiet, reliable video card with excellent vivo. At the time I also had a powercolor 9800 pro (rubbish build quality) and when I compared the two the only software I owned which showed a large increase with the 9800 pro was 3dmark 03.
