How will socket 939 EOL affect retail availability?

I own a socket 939 Epox board with DDR slots and an A64 processor. Whenever it comes time to upgrade I'd probably be interested in keeping the board, adding another gig of DDR memory, and simply upgrading to an X2 socket 939 CPU. If I did this later than six months from now, will I almost definitely have to purchase a chip on eBay or would you still expect retail availability of these parts?

It's quite possible.
AMD are unlikely to continue to prop up the 939 platform with new chips any longer than they have stock I would have thought.

The stock should be ok for a while as OEMs will mostly have moved straight to AM2.

Most likely. If you can still find 3000+s and Opty 165s now, then socket939 chips should be available in the future.

Last delivery dates are for July of next year, so there will still be chips around. I would not wait 'till after December, though, since I doubt anyone will build up inventory of s939 X2s just to cater for the possible upgraders.
