Ya know. The movie Civil War is looking more and more prescient.

As he fucks over the very people that elected him, and he becomes more and more defensive, entrenched and fascist, a CA/Texas alliance doesn't seem so absurd anymore.
Civil war is eventually going to happen over water out west, specifically between at least Arizona and California. Phoenix doesn't have water and they're the fastest growing metro in the nation. And that was without Trump being king.

What does "the modern era will not survive it" mean? I suspect we will be able to adapt in ways that do not mean the end of an era in any other sense than climatological. I hope there is a seismic shift in politics, but I don't think it is a certainty. If there is a shift, I hope it's in a positive direction, but that is also far from guaranteed.
Arizona can't adapt to not having water. Blows my mind how many people are buying homes in Phoenix right now that will need to be abandoned by the time their 30 year mortgage is paid off.

I more meant the current 'global capitalism and superpowered democracies rule the day' notion. Our version of modern society is in direct conflict with the world we're going to faceplant into. Mass migrations, collapse of ecosystems, rise of authoritarian governments (and eventual fall) will likely lead to a collapse into minor nation-states, general resource conflicts, and subsistence living over what we've got now.

Authoritarian governments march right in lock step with capitalism.

Phoenix is probably fine for water, if they stopped growing crops in the desert. Just stop growing America's salads and Saudi Arabia's horse feed in the fucking desert.

They march just fine with any economic policy. It's just easier to keep people in line with shiny objects than with bullets. If/when the global economy functionally collapses, they'll do just fine with an oligarchic/feudal economy as well.

But PHX alone can't control the usage. It's largely corporate farms they're competing with. And there are in fact areas of the metro already going dry (Scottsdale fringes).

Yes. The state needs to step in and stop subsidizing the water use for farming. If they charged market rates for water, certain types of water-intensive agriculture would no longer be very appealing.

Nope. Will only take with NY. Would like California but they’d probably just want to be their own separate nation. Bugs Bunny itself from the rest of the US

I think the odds are high, based off of recent history, the Trump will be Abraham Lincoln’d, rfk’d, if you will.

Bugs could have spared the US the fascist takeover

Bunch of pissed off, illegally or wrongly fired workers who the president and his cohort have gravely insulted in the process, and lots and lots of guns... what could go wrong?

Funeral planet, dead black asteroid
Mausoleum, this world is a tomb
Human zombies, staring blank faces
No reason to live, dead in the womb
Death shroud existence, slave for a pittance
Condemned to die before I could breathe
Millions are screaming, the dead are still living
This Earth has died yet no one has seen

Funeralopolis.

This song has been playing in my head since Super Tuesday. I cant turn it off. It wont go away. I hope it ends better than Funeralopolis.
