How will I know if my monitor doesn't "support" a specific refresh rate?

I'm running Windows and all my games at 1024x768 at 75Hz, but I kicked it up to 90Hz with Powerstrip and it looks perfectly fine. If the monitor doesn't support that refresh rate, will the screen just turn black? Or, could this cause damage if I keep running it at this refresh rate?

It can cause damage if your running your monitor at a refresh rate it doesnt support. Although it use to be if it didnt support it, the video would be out of whack. Look up your monitor and find out. If you didnt receive documentation with it.

Just be careful if you wear contacts. My friend set his to 90hz at work. The refresh rate was so quick that his eyes forgot to blink. And for those of you with contacts, you know what blinking without moisture in eyes is like! :( Ouch.. Unless you have to constantly stare (i.e. 3-d games, graphic design, etc), anything above 70hz is fine.
