My GF2 Pro is currently down while I get it RMA'd for a faulty cooling fan.

I have a G400 in a static bag collecting dust. How well should a G400 scale with a P3 1Ghz proc?

Games currently playing are CS, NOLF, Midtown Madness 2, SWAT 3: Elite, and Rogue Squadron. Tried CS. Did quite well, 30s-40s in frames.

Not like the GF2 semi-Pro of 80s-90s, though :(. Something I miss is how good the display is on Matrox cards both 2D and 3D. I wish Matrox would shell out a faster 2D/3D board.

It all depends what resolution and colour depth you're running the games at. If you run everything at 640x480 in 16-bit colour you are relying on you CPU far more than if you were to run at 1024x768 in 32-bit colour.

It won't scale very much at all. You'll be video card limited even at 640 x 480 x 32.

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get that replacement GF2 (sorta) Pro from Leadtek.

:(

BTW, resolution is 1024x768x16bpp @ 85 Hz.

I wouldn't count on it doing much at all, the G400 wasn't at all designed for 3d gaming. It might be playable, but that's about all.

actually, it WAS designed for 3d gaming, and at the time it was released, the G400 and G400 MAX were viable options when buying a gaming video card in the voodoo3 and TNT2 Ultra days. the only problem was, they never progressed. The G400 MAX was the pinnacle of their 3d gaming
