How well is your monitor calibrated?

I had to mess with my monitor and my video card for quite awhile before I was even somewhat satisfied.

I saw the black and white fine but with all the colours I coludn't see the ends when it got blackish

I could see all of them fine. My monitor being well calibrated is something I'm pretty anal about.

My monitor is such a POS that I don't think it can be calibrated properly.

Your contrast should be all the way up and then you adjust the brightness until you can see all the bars and the darkest one is still black.

whenever i glanced away to read the text, it looked it was doing a color wave.

I only use my monitor at low brightness when I am on the computer an extended period of time. But when I am using photors or editing with colour that is intended for print then I put up the brightness to the correct levels. If I am not using them then they go back down. Contrast is always up.

My colors are a little dark (brightness 50%, contrast 100%) but that's the way I like it.

Pretty good here.

I can't tell the difference between the two deepest yellows no matter what I do though.
Don't know whether that's the monitor or my eyes.
