How well is the gf4 4400 overclocking?

Im guessing even though its not out yet, some of you have them.
Is the ram 3,3 or 3,6 ns ram? The voltage is probably decreased also.
But if this thing even comes close to 4600 levels, itll be a great bargain considering most of you ordered the visiontek from Gateway.

Yeah the 4400 looks to be a much better deal than the 4600 - I'd personally go for a 4400 if looking for a new/expensive vid card. 100 bux cheaper and just slightly less performance, and u can prolly o/c it to or near GF 4 4600 levels. Of course the 4200 looks like an even better deal, but I don't think it will come out for awhile - nVidia doesn't even say on their own website that there IS a 4200; it seems it will be released whenever the "other players" (read: ATI) come out with their next offerings to compete at this lower price level.

I just read that the pixelview prolink ti 4400 will be outfitted with 3.6ns ram. That doesnt leave much room for overclocking, as its only rated at 277mhz ddr operation, as the default ti 4400 is 275mhz ddr. can anyone confirm that visiontek is using 3.6 ns ram?

From what I've heard the GF4 Ti4400, and 4600's arent overclocking very far at all... the typical oc's seem to be about 5-6%.

Exactly! If you can do it, then do it! If it doesn't want to o/c, then I guess it won't go! That's why they call it overclocking "potential"; some will o/c, some won't budge.

so if youre looking to save some money (like me) but you want good performance [potential] (like me) then go with the 440?
Right now, my Geforce2 is manufactured by NVidia, is it ok to buy a card by another manufacturer and run the NVidia drivers?
Ive seen A LOT of the 440's on EBay, made by different manufacturers, and im wondering if i should go for this?

Um, you can get a new card if it's under warranty and you overclocked it 200%! There's a reason these cards cost $300; if you fry it, you get a new one under warranty. That one goes, same thing. It's all factored into the cost of the card. Ever wonder why software companies charge so much for software? They have to compensate somewhat for piracy. It's the nature of the industry.

BTW, I've never fried a CPU/Video Card/Mobo ever... only thing that has gone on me is an old POS second-hand 3.2 GB western digital HD for no good reason. Guess it was just its time.

As far as the 4600 overclocking goes, I got one yesterday 3/3/2002 and so far it is at 330/355(710) and shows no signs of wear. I bump both the core and memory up 10(for memory that is 20) and then I play the games I normally play for 3 or 4 hours just to make sure it is really getting a workout. As far as the 4400's go I am not sure of the memory speed. On the Visiontek 4600's it is 2.8ns memory, so they left some room for OCing. If anyone cares I will update this thread with my final OCing scores.

If you can cool down your video card properly (no matter what kind of model it is) then overclocking is a VERY good deal. I have a Geforce2MX 400 and i tested it on its maximum memory frequency, that is 170Mhz... It gave me a 2700 score in 3DMark 2001SE in 1024x768x32. And the score i had before the overclocking, was 2217.... Get the picture...?

I'm running my Visiontek at 325/350(700) with no problems what so ever...it added around 1000 3dmarks to my 2001 3dmark score. So yeah at least the Visionteks have some room to them.

These cards will be modded by "resourceful" people in the next couple of months and then we will see a showdown of the best of the best cards out in this round. Gainwards GS will be overclocked out of the box cause that's what makes their cards the Golden Sample, and I have seen some cards that will have 330/330 out of the box as well for the Ti4600. Not sure if that was Asus or not.
