How was your Friday?

I hope you all have had a great day leading up to the weekend.

I had the task of telling three employees I had decided to shut down their division and today was their last day. I was generous with the severance pay and will continue to provide benefits for the severance period, but it was still a shitty way to end the week.

As much fun as it is to be your own boss and run a company, sometimes the decisions are tough on those around you.

I got to teach a little lecture about heat transfer in electronics over lunch today. It was fun. Then I routed traces most of the rest of the day. All in all, pretty good. I also talked with the gorgeous secretary (who ordered lunch for the talk).

Today is my last day at my current work place.

I spent the whole day reading forums and playing ikariam.

I paid them 8 weeks severance in lieu of notice. Wouldn't you rather spend the time with pay looking for your next job?

good point, I never knew why employees never got a 2 week notice. In most cases the employee has more at risk than the employer.

Because most of the time you don't want disgruntled employees walking around your workplace for 2 weeks? Severance in lieu is the norm.

i suppose 8 weeks with pay and no work is better than two weeks with pay and working. i doubt most employers would do this. kudos.

I had the pleasure of telling our production workers that, while SeaRay is laying off all employees with less than 3 years service, we're giving a 5% half-year service bonus to everyone. Normally they hate me, today they loved me.

Was terrible. Had to put my dog (probably my best friend of 12 years) down last night, have been working 12 hour days at work trying to prepare for a field test, and my girlfriend has been going through some stuff. I was so stressed out I never even fell asleep last night. When I got up this morning I started puking because of the stress, then went to work feeling tired and ill.

Last job I got laid off fro, I got 11 months (yes, months)notice, and 11 weeks severance package.

Today I found out as an intern at US Steel one of my projects will help make a $1/2 million decision... and from what I gather there are no other interns that are working on stuff like this. So I don't know if that means I just fell into something or I'm actually decent at what I do but I think it's pretty cool.

I was having a pretty good day at work, then I saw the news article about windows XP not being sold after June 30th. Then my day went from "pretty good" to "Outstanding!" Not to mention I have been in a very good mood since they released the decision of DC vs Heller yesterday...

I woke up at 10:30 and took a bath. Then I ate a sandwich. I watched some news on TV. Then I looked for my toothbrush to brush my teeth, as I couldn't find it earlier in the day. I made dinner and ate that. Then I thought about going to watch Wall-E, but figured I would watch it Monday as a lot of kids will probably watching it tonight. I am waiting to watch Dr. Who tonight. Then I will watch some movies and look up information about stuff I find mildly interesting.

I sat and sweated my balls off while watching Scrubs and listening to 80's music most of the day, so I'd say its pretty good.
