My guess is it wasn't done. I don't think any of the 9800's had 16 pipe gpu's.

The Mobility 9800, contrary to what one might think, was actually based on the X800 series and was basically the same as a X800GT with 8 pipes and a 256-bit memory interface. It is possible that it wasn't physically locked and could be enabled to run with 16 pipes.

hmmm interesting. the x800 was based on the 9800 gpu aritechture. maybe he in fact did have 16 pipes. i'll email him and post here what he says 🙂
