I did, I understand they were protesting to get out jail.

Nairobi's streets are home to thousands of homeless children, many of them abandoned or orphaned by AIDS (news - web sites). Many steal and sniff glue and are regarded as an aggressive menace. They are also often the victims of abuse and violence.

The only mention of AIDS. Are you saying the it was AIDS that jailed them and caused them to commit these crimes? mmk

Ok keywords orphaned by AIDS. That means these guys/gals lost both parents and probably everyone else in their lives to AIDS. There was no system of social support - so they went to the street where they probably engaged in all the things that street kids have to engage in to survive. Then when the local goverment is run over with street kids (read Lord of the Flies), they place them in what is probably a horrible situation. With their dignity, youth, and now freedom taken away by AIDS - they protested - in probably the only thing they had left that they themselves were in control of. It was not like they could run to Wal-Mart for supplies for a letter writing campaign.

So yes - I think AIDS jailed them and pretty much forced them in their current situation.
